    Abstract: Circular saws having a blade that moves relative to a stationary base structure during operative use of the circular saws to cut a workpiece and methods of detecting a kickback condition of such circular saws. The circular saws include a base structure, a user-actuated assembly, an attachment structure, and a controller. The attachment structure is configured to permit constrained relative motion between the base structure and the user-actuated assembly in a motion direction and during operative use of the circular saw to cut the workpiece. A motion sensor is configured to generate a motion signal indicative of motion of the user-actuated assembly along the motion direction. The controller is programmed to initiate a kickback response of the circular saw responsive to the motion signal being indicative of a kickback condition of the circular saw.

The assembly attachment structure includes a blade bevel angle adjustment mechanism configured to adjust a blade bevel angle of the bevel saw blade. The bevel saws also include a fence that defines a fence surface that extends away from the workpiece support surface. The fence includes a first fence region and a second fence region. The first fence region and the second fence region define a blade-receiving gap therebetween, and the fence further includes a gap adjustment mechanism configured to automatically adjust the blade-receiving gap based, at least in part, on the blade bevel angle.

The workpiece support includes a support surface configured to support the workpiece and is configured to maintain an at least substantially fixed orientation relative to the workpiece while the implement performs an operation on the workpiece. The sensor array is configured to detect physical contact between the workpiece support and the workpiece and to generate a sensor output. The controller is programmed to receive the sensor output and to control the operation of the power tool based, at least in part, on the sensor output.
