  • Patent number: 8008931
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of and a device for monitoring the operation of a flotation cell. In the method according to the invention, the electrical conductivity of the material (3, 7) in the flotation cell (1) is measured to observe any variations in the movement, the properties and/or the inner structure of the material. The device (10) according to the invention comprises a number of measuring sensors (11, 12, 13, 14) of electrical conductivity, which are to be fitted in the flotation cell (1) and embedded in the material (3, 7) contained in it for measuring its electrical conductivity and, on the basis of the conductivity values, defining the state and/or the properties of the material.

  • Patent number: 6805243
Abstract: In a flotation machine rotor, a body portion defines an interior area that is adapted to communicate with a gas source. At least one rotor blade projects radially outwardly from the body portion with at least one aperture being defined thereby and in gaseous communication with the interior area. The aperture is positioned adjacent the rotor blade and is defined in part by a lower peripheral edge. At least one lip projects radially outwardly from the lower peripheral edge so that during operation of the rotor, solids traveling along the body portion are projected radially away from the rotor by the lip and become approximately aligned with the aperture so that gas flowing from the aperture creates bubbles in the slurry that entrain at least a portion of the solid particles. The bubbles and solid particles form a froth on the surface of the slurry which can then be removed from the flotation machine.

  • Patent number: 6327916
Abstract: In an apparatus for measuring the flow characteristics of a slurry discharged from a flotation cell, a metering flange includes a central axis and interior area defined by at least one flange wall. The metering flange is coupled to the flotation cell and includes an inlet coaxial with the axis and in fluid communication with the slurry discharge from the cell. An outlet is also coaxial with the inlet section for allowing the slurry to flow through the interior area. An impingement plate is positioned in the interior area such that an impingement surface defined by the plate is acted upon by slurry flowing through the metering flange. A load cell measures force exerted on the impingement plate by the slurry flowing through the interior area via a transfer mechanism coupled to the impingement plate and in communication with the load cell.

  • Patent number: 5923012
Abstract: An apparatus for extracting floatable minerals from a slurry (3). Slurry (3) is fed into a tank (2) via a feed inlet (25) and agitated and aerated so as to create an upper zone containing froth enriched with the floatable minerals. The agitation and aeration are also regulated to create a lower zone (41) containing a relatively dense or coarse component of the slurry (3), and an intermediate zone (42) containing a substantially less dense or finer component of the slurry (3). The surface froth is progressively withdrawn via a launder (30) thereby to produce a flotation concentrate. Similarly, the relatively dense component of the slurry (3) is progressively withdrawn from the lower zone (41) via a bottom inlet (26), and the relatively less dense of the slurry (3) is progressively withdrawn from the intermediate zone (42) via a side outlet (28).

  • Patent number: 5909022
Abstract: A flash flotation device (1) comprises a tank (2) to contain slurry (3) incorporating minerals to be extracted, a feed inlet (25) for admission of slurry (3) into the tank (2), agitation means (10) to agitate the slurry (3) within the tank (2), aeration means to aerate the slurry (3) whereby floatable minerals in suspension form a surface froth for removal via froth lip (29), a bottom outlet (26) for withdrawal of relatively coarse or dense components of the slurry (3) from the tank (2), and a side outlet (28) to regulate the level of slurry (3) in the tank (2).
