Abstract: A character recognition mobile telephone registers and performs various functions of the telephone using a character recognition function. The character recognition mobile telephone includes a function character storage for registering character codes corresponding to various functions of the mobile telephone; a touch screen with which a user inputs a desired function character; a character recognizer for generating feature data for the character input from the touch screen and a corresponding character code, and searching the function character storage for a character code identical to the generated character code; and a controller for entering a function mode corresponding to the input character.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for performing improved speech recognition in a communication terminal, e.g., a mobile phone with a hands-free voice dialing function. In a speech recognition mode, a user's input speech such as a desired called party name, number or a phone command, is converted to feature data and compared to individual pre-stored feature data sets corresponding to pre-recorded speech obtained during a registration process. Difference values representing the respective differences between the current user's input speech and the respective data sets are computed. A first closest (most similar) and second closest feature data set correspond to the first smallest and second smallest difference values so obtained. A closeness threshold is computed as the sum of a small, predetermined threshold and a differential value between the first and second difference values.

Abstract: A battery monitoring device for a mobile communication terminal having a display. A current sink consumes a traffic mode current in response to a control signal output from a microprocessor. An analog-to-digital converter converts a voltage signal output from the current sink to a digital signal. The microprocessor compares the output signal of the analog-to-digital converter with threshold values stored in an internal memory to determine the remaining capacity of the battery. The remaining capacity of the battery is then displayed on the display.

Abstract: A transmission and reception method and apparatus is capable of supplying local oscillation frequencies for upconversion and downconversion, as well as carrier frequencies for modulation and demodulation by utilizing only one local oscillator. The apparatus includes a reference signal generator for generating a reference signal, and a phase locked loop for locking the output of the reference signal generator to a predetermined frequency. A signal generator generates a signal in response to the output provided from the phase locked loop, and provides the signal to phase shifters in modulation and demodulation circuits. A first frequency multiplier multiplies the output of the signal generator, a first band pass filter band pass filters the output of the first frequency multiplier, and a first amplifier amplifies the output of the first band pass filter and provides the amplified result to an upconversion mixer.

Abstract: A strip line filter has a switching function for being operated without connecting a separate switch to a front end and a back end of the filter for preventing transmission electric power from being lost by a receiving unit, to thereby make the size of the transmitting and receiving system smaller. The strip line filter has a switching function in a transmission line filter, comprising: an inputting unit resonator and an outputting unit resonator, with the inputting unit resonator having a first open stub and a second open stub with the first open stub connected to ground through at least one capacitor; and the outputting unit resonator has a third open stub and a fourth open stub with the third open stub connected to ground through at least one capacitor, and being positioned within a distance of about one wavelength of a pass band frequency from the inputting unit resonator.
