  • Publication number: 20240001317
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for feeding a polymerization catalyst into a polymerization reactor, said process comprising the steps of: (i) forming a catalyst slurry comprising oil and a solid catalyst component in a first catalyst preparation vessel; (ii) transferring the catalyst slurry from the first catalyst preparation vessel to a first catalyst feed vessel; (iii) maintaining the catalyst slurry in the first catalyst feed vessel in a homogeneous state; (iv) withdrawing a portion of the catalyst slurry from the first catalyst feed vessel, preferably continuously withdrawing the catalyst slurry from the first catalyst feed vessel, and introducing the withdrawn portion of the catalyst slurry into a polymerization reactor; wherein the oil has a dynamic viscosity of from 25 to 1500 mPa*s at the conditions within the first catalyst preparation vessel and the first catalyst feed vessel, wherein the catalyst slurry is transferred along a substantially vertical path downwards from the first catalyst

  • Publication number: 20230063000
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for producing alpha-olefin polymers in a multistage polymerization process which includes at least two gas phase polymerization reactors, wherein unreacted gas withdrawn from the second gas phase polymerization reactor is compressed in a compressor and said compressed gas is fed via a conveying gas line into an outlet between a first outlet vessel downstream of the first gas phase polymerization reactor and said second gas phase polymerisation reactor. Such a process can alleviate problems of malfunction, disturbances or plugging of the transfer lines and enables higher productivity and considerable saving of energy and equipment cost. Moreover, the production of alpha-olefin polymers with varying and tailored properties is possible.

  • Patent number: 7812102
Abstract: A method and an apparatus of discharging polymer from a continuously operated gas phase reactor, wherein at least one monomer is polymerized in a bed containing active catalyst formed by catalyst and polymer particles suspended in a fluid, the bed defining a fluidized bed level in said reactor. The invention comprises continuously withdrawing polymer powder from the reactor; and adjusting the discharge rate of the polymer powder so as to maintain a constant bed level during polymerization. By means of the invention the discharge of the polymer can be made truly continuous without any disturbance of the polymerization. The rate of withdrawn polymer can be flexibly adjusted depending on the progress of the polymerization and it can also easily be scaled up if the capacity of the reactor is increased.

  • Patent number: 6476161
Abstract: The present invention concerns a method and an apparatus of introducing polymer slurry obtained from a slurry reactor into a gas phase reactor containing a fluidized bed (C, D). According to the present invention, the content of the slurry reactor (R1) is conducted directly to the fluidized bed reactor (R2) as a multiphase stream comprising polymer, active catalyst and reaction medium using at least one feed line (10; 11; 12), and the stream is fed below a first fluidized zone (C) of the gas phase reactor via inlet pipe protruding into the fluidized bed in order to increase the once-through conversion of the process. By means of the invention, the amount of unreacted monomers which needs to be recirculated is minimized and investment and operation costs of the recovery section are greatly reduced.

  • Patent number: 6469110
Abstract: Described herein is a process and an apparatus for polymerizing propylene. The process comprises carrying out the polymerization in at least one slurry reactor and at least one gas phase reactor without recycling unreacted monomers to the slurry reactor. A polymerization product containing unreacted monomers is recovered from the slurry reactor and volatile components are separated from the product in a separation unit. The polymerization product is recovered from the separation unit and conducted to a first gas phase reactor; and at least a part of the volatile components a recovered from the separation unit and conducted them to a gas phase reactor. At least 10% of the polymer product is produced in the gas phase reactor(s). The invention provides propylene homopolymers and alloys of propylene homopolymers and copolymers having good impact and creep properties.

  • Patent number: 6455643
Abstract: Described herein is a process and an apparatus for preparing propylene homopolymers and copolymers, which comprises polymerizing propylene optionally with comonomers in the presence of a catalyst at elevated temperature and pressure in at least one slurry reactor and at least one gas phase reactor, the polymerization product of at least one slurry reactor, containing unreacted monomers, being conducted to a first gas phase reactor essentially without recycling of the unreacted monomers to the slurry reactor. The invention provides for fast start-ups because the gas phase bed material is available directly from the loop reactor.
