  • Patent number: 5827399
Abstract: A method for regulation of the transverse distribution of the fiber orientation of a web produced by means of a paper machine or equivalent, by regulating the transverse profile of the discharge opening (16) of the headbox (10) of the paper machine. The transverse grammage profile of the paper web (W.sub.0 . . . W.sub.1) produced by means of the paper machine is measured, and the measurement signal obtained in this way is used as a feedback signal in the control system. With the machine configuration and parameters present in the paper machine to be controlled, data are collected concerning the relationship between the directional angle of the transverse distribution of fiber orientation and the transverse distribution of grammage of the web (W.sub.0 . . . W.sub.1) that is being produced by, carrying out response runs of the paper machine in its various states of operation (i). The relation data are stored in the memory of the computer (52).

  • Patent number: 5649448
Abstract: A method for controlling transverse profiles of a web in a web-manufacturing machine, such as a board or paper machine, and/or being treated in a finishing machine. At least one of a transverse caliper, grammage and moisture profiles of the web is measured either directly or indirectly. Actuators acting upon these profiles are regulated by measurement signals. In order to optimize the quality of the web to be produced, the reel formation, and the runnability of the machine, the transverse tension profile of the web to be manufactured and/or treated is measured. Based on the measurement of the transverse tension profile, set profiles are formed which control the actuator(s) of the profile regulation.

  • Patent number: 4744866
Abstract: A web-forming method is applied in a paper machine. The web-forming section which includes a lower wire loop having an initial single-wire run and dewatering zone in which the web is dewatered through and an upper wire loop having a joint run with a subsequent run of the lower wire to form a two-wire dewatering zone within which dewatering takes place substantially through the upper wire. A first open faced forming roll is situated within the upper wire loop so that the two-wire dewatering progress begins upwardly in the region of the first forming roll. A forming shoe within the lower wire loop has a curved deck whose center of curvature is situated on the side of the lower wire loop and further guides the joint run of the upper and lower wires in the two-wire dewatering zone. A second forming roll situated within the lower wire loop after the forming shoe guides the joint run of the upper and lower wires over a downwardly curved sector thereof.

  • Patent number: 4687548
Abstract: Method and apparatus in the head box of a paper machine for controlling the distortion of fibre orientation in the paper web comprise an arrangement wherein by-pass flows of pulp suspension are passed through opposite passages lateral of the turbulence generator preceding the slice portion or discharge channel of the head box. The magnitude and/or the mutual relationship of the by-pass flows is adjusted to control the distortion of the fibre orientation in that the by-pass flows produce a transverse flow in the discharge flow of the pulp suspension from the head box, the speed of which compensates for the distortion of the fibre orientation.

  • Patent number: 4614566
Abstract: A web-forming section and method in a paper machine. The web-forming section includes a lower wire loop having an initial lower wire run constituting an initial single-wire dewatering zone of the web-forming section in which the web is dewatered through the lower wire, and an upper wire loop having a joint run with a subsequent run of the lower wire to form a two-wire dewatering zone of the web-forming section within which dewatering takes place substantially through the upper wire. A first open faced forming roll is situated within the upper wire loop so that the two-wire dewatering zone begins and curves upwardly in the region of the first forming roll. A forming shoe within the lower wire loop has a curved deck whose center of curvature is situated on the side of the lower wire loop and further guides the joint run of the upper and lower wires in the two-wire dewatering zone.

  • Patent number: 4116259
Abstract: An approach pipe system which delivers pulp suspension to the headbox of a paper machine includes a tank having in its interior an upper gas space and a lower liquid space adapted to contain a liquid the upper surface of which contacts the gas in the gas space. In its interior this tank carries a flexible diaphragm which defines with the tank a flow space separated from the liquid space by the flexible diaphragm. A supply pipe communicates with this flow space for delivering a pulp suspension thereto while a discharge pipe also communicates with the flow space for receiving a pulp suspension therefrom and for continuing the travel of the pulp suspension to a headbox. The gas in the gas space acts through the liquid in the liquid space on the diaphragm to damp pressure and flow rate disturbances in the pulp suspension flowing toward the headbox.

  • Patent number: 4104116
Abstract: A headbox system for a paper-manufacturing machine includes an equalizing chamber the interior of which receives pulp stock from any suitable source and delivers this pulp stock to an outlet end of the equalizing chamber. A plurality of elongated passages, situated in a horizontal plane, respectively have inlet ends which communicate with the outlet end of the equalizing chamber to receive a pulp stock therefrom, the stock flowing along the interiors of these passages toward a slice of the headbox. A throttling plate is situated between the outlet end of the equalizing chamber and the inlet ends of the passages for throttling the flow of pulp stock from the equalizing chamber into these passages.

  • Patent number: 4063997
Abstract: A paper machine has an enclosure for containing a gas under pressure. A hydraulic headbox of the paper machine includes a slice as well as a conductor structure for conducting suspension to the slice and a distributor structure for distributing suspension as uniformly as possible to the conductor structure to be conducted thereby to the slice. The gas enclosure and distributor structure respectively have hollow interior portions communicating with each other so as to provide for the suspension in the distributor portion a free surface acted upon by gas under pressure in the enclosure so that this latter gas under pressure will act as a gas cushion for damping pressure variations in the stock suspension.
