  • Patent number: 8073452
Abstract: The present invention provides methods and apparatuses for utilizing unused portions of an allocated frequency spectrum in a wireless communications system that broadcasts content to wireless stations. A first wireless station may communicate with a second wireless station on an idle broadcast channel while keeping the resulting interference level below an acceptable maximum limit at the other wireless stations. Using interference level information that are measured at the wireless stations, the wireless station can negotiate with the other wireless station on an establishment channel for subsequent communications on one or more broadcast channels. The wireless station may receive broadcast content on a time slice that corresponds to a broadcast channel and that is further processed by the wireless station. Otherwise, the wireless station can utilize the corresponding time to measure an interference level for the corresponding channel or to transmit or receive data to/from another wireless station.

  • Patent number: 8019383
Abstract: Various example embodiments are disclosed relating to wireless networks, such as relating to techniques to improve coverage of push-to-talk wireless networks or services. In an example embodiment, a technique may include forwarding data to a remote push-to-talk (PTT) wireless network via an intermediary device of an intermediary wireless network if the data is received from a wireless device of a local push-to-talk (PTT) wireless network, forwarding data directly to one or more wireless devices of the local PTT wireless network if the data is received from the remote PTT wireless network via the intermediary device, and forwarding data to one or more wireless devices of the local PTT wireless network and to the remote PTT wireless network via the intermediary device of the intermediary wireless network if the data is generated locally.

  • Publication number: 20110040757
Abstract: An approach is provided for enhancing objects with tag-based content. One or more memory tags associated with one or more objects are detected within proximity of a mobile device. The memory tag contains supplemental information related to the one or more objects. One of the detected memory tags is selected by receiving an input signal or by applying one or more selection criteria. Selection of one of the detected memory tags initiates reading of the supplemental information from the selected memory tag. The supplemental information includes recognition information to associate the supplemental information with a specific section or portion of a respective one of the objects.

  • Patent number: 7697893
Abstract: A wireless communications device includes a first radio and a second radio. The first radio is receives information regarding an ad-hoc mesh wireless network from at least one remote device. The second radio exchanges user data with the ad-hoc wireless mesh network. The wireless communications device also includes a buffer and a scheduler. The buffer stores user data for transmission to one or more remote devices in the ad-hoc wireless mesh network. The scheduler schedules transmissions by the second radio of the user data based on the received information. The first and second radios may employ various communications technologies. Examples of such technologies include Bluetooth, wireless local area network (WLAN), and ultra wideband (UWB). The information received from the remote device may include one or more of the following: configuration information (e.g.

  • Patent number: 7295568
Abstract: The disclosure details the implementation of an apparatus, method, and system for an network selector for datacasting in hybrid networks (NSDHN). In one aspect, the disclosure teaches an efficient delivery decision mechanism that takes into account efficiencies that may be achieved by employing one network delivery system over another for any given area. In another aspect, the disclosure teaches how to dynamically select the bearer for IP multicast data delivery in hybrid networks. Also, the disclosure teaches a network delivery selector based on Simulated Annealing and genetic algorithms. The network delivery selector provides an extremely fast mechanism to establish an optimal delivery bearer dynamically. This allows the network delivery selector to combine unicast, multicast and broadcast network bearers in the same hybrid network to exploit their combined best properties and serve as many users as possible.
