Patent number: 8443108Abstract: A method and mobile device are presented for centrally controlling backup functionality, so that parties such as backup devices will efficiently be informed how data content should be backed up from or restored to the mobile device. The mobile device exposes to a party rules for backing up or restoring data content, and those rules are not just for the party, but also are for other parties including the mobile device itself. The rules are contained in a list formatted in extensible markup language (XML). If the party is an external party, the mobile device provides an object exchange protocol (OBEX) capability object in response to the party fetching that object. The OBEX capability object describes capabilities of the mobile device, and is for use by the external party in order to access the list of rules via the mobile device exposing those rules to the external party.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2004Date of Patent: May 14, 2013Assignee: Nokia CorportionInventors: Ari Lehtola, Tiina Partanen, Jouni Rapakko

Patent number: 7590629Abstract: SyncML is used for synchronizing data of terminal device in wireless and wired environments. In general, synchronization takes place between a terminal device (e.g., a mobile phone) and a server device (e.g., a web server in Internet). However, a SyncML session, which occurs between the terminal and server, is an end-to-end communication. The idea of the present invention is to provide a method, a router and a system to allow routing of the synchronizing data exchanged during a synchronizing session through such a router. In general having the router is more cost efficient and a faster solution from the end-user point of view.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 2003Date of Patent: September 15, 2009Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Mikko Sahinoja, Jussi Piispanen, Jouni Rapakko, Mika Martikainen

Publication number: 20090070500Abstract: The invention relates to the sharing of data between a first and a second device. A data transmission connection is set up between the devices to adapt the devices and to share data between the devices. The second device comprises an adapter program which adapts the first device to the second device on the basis of the setting data of the first device. The setting data of the first device are arranged in the first device, wherein the setting data are transmitted to the second device to implement the adaptation.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 7, 2005Publication date: March 12, 2009Inventors: Mikko Suomela, Vesa Saario, Jouni Rapakko

Patent number: 7308642Abstract: SyncML allows synchronization to take place between a terminal device and a server device. To be able to understand each other the data transferred between a SyncML client and a SyncML server must be coded as a SyncML document. The coding or decoding/parsing of the SyncML document is done by the separate application components, respectively, that other end-user applications (e.g. a UI application) can use. It is not always wanted, advantageous or even possible to employ the SyncML coding/decoding feature, since it is subjected to several disadvantages. The present disclosure provides a concept to still use the synchronization related components for communicating synchronization data between the participating devices but without employing the coding/decoding component feature. The response of coding and decoding the synchronization data is transferred to corresponding end-user applications.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 2003Date of Patent: December 11, 2007Assignee: Nokia Mobile Phones, Ltd.Inventors: Jouni Rapakko, Mika Martikainen, Sami Pajusaari

Patent number: 7281246Abstract: An electronic device, a storing means and a method for loading the user interface software of an expansion card in the electronic device. The electronic device comprises means for loading, starting and executing program modules in the electronic device. The expansion card can be coupled in a releasable manner to the electronic device. The user interface software is divided at least into a basic module and a user interface module. The loading of the user interface software is executed at least in two phases, wherein in the first phase the loading and start-up of the basic module is conducted, and in the second phase the loading and start-up of the user interface module is conducted. The second phase is conducted when the expansion card is coupled to the electronic device.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 2000Date of Patent: October 9, 2007Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Jouni Rapakko, Sami Pajusaari

Publication number: 20050021867Abstract: The invention relates to arranging synchronization of data in an information system comprising at least two separate datasets to be synchronized and a data storage into which data in the datasets to be synchronized is stored and from which the data to be synchronized is delivered to the datasets. The solution comprises determining at least some of the fields of at least one data type as search settings. From a record stored or to be stored in the data storage, at least one character string is determined as a search key on the basis of at least one predetermined search setting, and the search key associated with the record is stored. In response to receiving a search expression corresponding to the search key, the data storage is searched for the data associated with the search key.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 27, 2004Publication date: January 27, 2005Inventors: Tiina Partanen, Ari Lehtola, Sami Pajusaari, Samuli Ylinen, Jouni Rapakko, Mikko Sahinoja, Jani Vuorinen

Patent number: 6788676Abstract: A user equipment (UE) device (11) including a mobile terminal (MT) (11b 11b′) coupled to a terminal equipment (TE) device (11a) including an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) proxy adjunct (P+) for use by the TE (11a) in making multimedia service requests for IP communications with a desired end-to-end QoS, the end-to-end including the local connection and a network supporting QoS, e.g. an UMTS network (12) having as an extension of its packet-switched core network (12b) an IMS (12c) providing multimedia services with selected QoS. The IMS proxy adjunct (P+) is implemented to make extensions to messages according to any protocol providing a session description protocol (SDP) component, such as SIP or RTSP, so as to ensure the selected QoS. In addition, a mechanism is provided by which the MT (11b′) informs the IMS (12c) when it has IMS proxy capabilities.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2002Date of Patent: September 7, 2004Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Tinna Partanen, Jounì Rapakko, Markku Ojala, Vlad A.
