  • Patent number: 9680307
Abstract: Systems and methods for regulating the voltage at a point of interconnection of a renewable energy plant, such as a solar plant, with a grid are provided. A voltage signal indicative of the voltage at the point of interconnection can be received and filtered with a high pass filter to generate a filtered error signal. The high pass filter can block components of the voltage signal at a frequency less than a threshold frequency. A reactive power command for the renewable energy plant can be generated based on the filtered error signal. One or more inverters of the renewable energy plant can be controlled to output reactive power based on the reactive power command. A rejection module can be implemented to prevent adverse interaction with other voltage control devices. In addition, a reset module can be implemented to preserve dynamic reactive power range of the inverters.

  • Patent number: 7315769
Abstract: A plurality of power generating assets are connected to a power grid. The grid may, if desired, be a local grid or a utility grid. The power grid is connected to a plurality of loads. The loads may, if desired, be controllable and non-controllable. Distribution of the power to the loads is via a controller that has a program stored therein that optimizes the controllable loads and the power generating assets. The optimization process is via multi-tier benefit construct.

  • Patent number: 6963187
Abstract: A power flow controller for controlling the flow of active and reactive power on an AC transmission line between an input and output includes first and second power converters, coupled to each other to exchange active power and coupled to the input and output. A controller is coupled to the power converters and controls the converters to provide a controlled quantity of active power to the output, and draw this controlled quantity of active power from the input of the power flow converter. Electric current is diverted at a node between the input and the output, allowing independent control of currents at the input and output. In a preferred embodiment, the two power converters are interconnected in series. A controllable susceptance is connected in shunt at a node between the converters to divert the current.
