  • Patent number: 4886512
Abstract: The invention provides a generally narrow rectangular garment having elasticized portions centered on the long edges of the rectangle. The pad is elasticized such that shrinkage of the relaxed elastic results in a pouched formation that is well suited for use in absorption of body excretions, particularly those from incontinent adults. The pad generally has an elasticized area of between about 25 to about 60 percent of the total garment length. The elasticized edge of the pad is such that shortening of the pad amounts to between about 15 and about 37 percent of the original extended length, and the width of the pad generally ranges between about 20 and 35 percent of the total pad length.

  • Patent number: 4668230
Abstract: The pad of the invention is composed of impervious backing sheet and a pervious body-side liner with an absorbent material there between. The pad is elasticized along its edges from points at substantially one end extending along the longer edges of the rectangular pad for at least two-thirds of the length of the pad. In a preferred form of the invention the pad has as its absorbent material a coform structure of air-formed meltblown polymers combined with air-formed cellulose fibers that have been formed onto a pervious spunbonded material that serves as the pervious body-side liner. In the preferred form the backing sheet is formed of an extrusion-coated spunbonded material that has the spunbonded material on the outer surface with the backing sheet folded over to overlap on the body side of the garment with the fabric toward the body. The folded portion forms the pad's baffles.

  • Patent number: 4639949
Abstract: Disposable garments (10) having an elasticized opening including an elastic element (25, 60, 70) joined to a marginal portion of an exterior panel (21, 40, 61, 71) of the garment about the opening along a plurality of spaced bond points (50), and also joined to a marginal portion of an interior panel (20, 62, 72) or folded-over portion of the exterior panel (40a) along the opening, with the outer edges of the elastic element and panel portions joined thereto being substantially coincident. The elastic element is joined to the panel portions in an elongated condition and thereafter allowed to retract to produce micro-buckling (51) of the exterior panel between the bond points.

  • Patent number: 4500316
Abstract: A disposable incontinent garment having a narrow crotch portion integrally connected to front and back body-encircling portions, with elastic leg bands extending along the longitudinal margins of the crotch and elastic waist bands extending along the latitudinal margins of the front and back portions, the elastic bands cooperating to form generally truncated triangular front and back pocket portions between relatively large convolutions along the legs and bases of the triangular pockets to provide increased containment and comfort features of the garment. A plurality of attachment tapes secure the front and back portions of the garment together in use and provide appropriate leg and waist band seals as well as supporting and stabilizing the front and back pocket portions.
