  • Patent number: 6824355
Abstract: The guide-vane system serves to change the position of the guide vanes of an axial-flow exhaust-gas turbine of a turbocharger. The guide vanes are arranged axially symmetrically to the turbine axis in a flow passage carrying exhaust gas and can be pivoted by a pivoting device in each case about a radially directed axis. A vane shank led radially outward from the flow passage through a casing wall is attached to each of the guide vanes. With its part directed outward, the vane shank is mounted so as to be rotatable about the pivot axis. The pivoting device contains an adjusting ring, arranged outside the flow passage and rotatable about the turbine axis, and also an adjusting lever which transmits a torque from the adjusting ring to the vane shank of each guide vane. The adjusting ring is mounted with its outside on rolling elements which are each designed as one-armed levers and are mounted so as to be pivotable on a component of a casing wall, this component being designed as a supporting ring.

  • Publication number: 20030049120
Abstract: The guide-vane system (5) serves to change the position of the guide vanes (6) of an axial-flow exhaust-gas turbine of a turbocharger. The guide vanes (6) are arranged axially symmetrically to the turbine axis (1) in a flow passage (14) carrying exhaust gas (15) and can be pivoted by a pivoting device in each case about a radially directed axis (8). A vane shank (18) led radially outward from the flow passage (14) through a casing wall is attached to each of the guide vanes (6). With its part directed outward, the vane shank (18) is mounted so as to be rotatable about the pivot axis (8). The pivoting device contains an adjusting ring (19), arranged outside the flow passage (14) and rotatable about the turbine axis (1), and also an adjusting lever (20) which transmits a torque from the adjusting ring (19) to the vane shank (18) of each guide vane (6).

  • Patent number: 5713200
Abstract: A simple exhaust system is disclosed with improved operational reliability and an increased service life for a turbocharged internal combustion engine, in which system both the advantages of shock-wave charging and those of pulse-converter charging are used, depending on the operating state of the internal combustion engine. These advantages are achieved by virtue of the fact that extension pieces (12, 13) are formed for the shock pipes (6, 7) and are arranged upstream of the connection line (8, 9) furthest away from the exhaust turbine (5). Each shock pipe (6, 7) is connected to a corresponding extension piece (12, 13). The interconnection conduit/s (14) is/are formed between the extension pieces (12, 13). Each interconnection conduit (14) has a cross-sectional constriction (15).

  • Patent number: 5518365
Abstract: A radial-flow exhaust gas turbocharger turbine includes a row of individually adjustable guide vanes, each guide vane mounted on a rotatable shalt supported in the turbine casing. A chord of each guide vane is not greater that a largest diameter of the shaft on which the guide vane is mounted. When viewed in the axial direction, a profile of each vane lies completely within a radially outer contour of the associated shaft. This permits the design of a one-piece adjustable unit formed of a guide vane, a rotatable shaft, and a pivoting lever. The adjustable unit can be inserted into the casing or removed from the casing as a single unit to facilitate installation and maintenance.

  • Patent number: 5498128
Abstract: In a radial-flow exhaust turbocharger turbine with a row of individually adjustable guide vanes (18), said guide vanes can be turned by means of an adjusting shaft (19) supported in a casing (14). Each adjusting shaft (19) is actuated by means of a pivoting lever (21).In each case two adjacent pivoting levers (21) are coupled by means of a connecting element (24). The connecting elements have a pivot (25) at their point of attachment to the pivoting lever. The distance (A) between the pivots (25) of a connecting element corresponds to the center distance (B) between two adjacent adjusting shafts (19). As a result, all the pivoting levers perform the same angular movement.
