Abstract: An apparatus for reproducing contents includes a reading unit which reads at least one of a plurality of reproduction setting information and at least one of a plurality of contents from a mobile recording medium, a control unit which analyzes the at least one of the plurality of reproduction setting information and sets a reproduction environment to reproduce the contents recorded on the mobile recording medium based on the analyzed at least one of the plurality of reproduction setting information, and a reproduction unit which reproduces the at least one of the plurality of contents based on the set reproduction environment.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing digital content are provided. The apparatus for managing digital content generated by applying digital rights management (DRM) includes: a content execution unit executing digital content; and a control unit confirming whether or not digital content is in a first period in which the digital content can be normally executed, and controlling the content execution unit so that, if the digital content is in the first period, the digital content can be executed normally, and if the digital content is in a second period which is not in the first period, the digital content can be executed in a manner which can be distinguished from that of execution in the first period. According to the apparatus and method, execution of digital content, which is close to expiration, can be controlled, thereby managing the expiration of the digital content for a user.

Abstract: Provided are an apparatus and method for determining the integrity of content in at least one packet of a plurality of packets. A content using apparatus includes a receiver which receives a transport packet including content in at least one packet and a secret set, which includes an integrity check key generated for determining the integrity of the content, and extracts the secret set by processing the transport packet, a storage unit which stores the secret set, a controller which uses the secret set to determine whether each packet having the content maintains integrity, and a data processing unit which processes the at least one packet if the at least one packet is determined to be maintaining integrity. Accordingly, when content is transmitted, the integrity of the content can be checked using only a small amount of transmission data and a small amount of computation.

Abstract: A method of decoding/encoding a content file is provided. The method of decoding a content file includes dividing an encoded content file into a plurality of data blocks, grouping the plurality of data blocks into a plurality of groups, generating a group content key for each of the plurality of groups, generating a plurality of block keys for the data blocks in each of the plurality of groups from the group content key generated for each of the plurality of groups, and decoding the plurality of data blocks using the plurality of block keys.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing digital rights management (DRM) content and a license, and a method and apparatus for using DRM content are provided. The method of providing DRM content and a license includes selecting usage conditions for content; transforming the usage conditions into a secure database (DB); and adding the secure DB to a license. The method of using DRM content generated by applying DRM includes searching for a license corresponding to the DRM content; authenticating a user who wants to use the DRM content; extracting usage conditions included in the license by using a secure DB agent, and confirming whether or not an action desired to be performed by the user satisfies the usage conditions; and if the action desired to be performed by the user satisfies the usage conditions, using the DRM content according to the action.

Abstract: A method and a device for displaying good reception-sensitivity information in a broadcast receiver. The method includes: detecting location information of the broadcast receiver and a reception sensitivity of a broadcast signal transmitted from a base station; transmitting the detected location information and reception sensitivity to a region information management server managing regional reception-sensitivity information and regional guide information; receiving from the region information management server good reception-sensitivity information, which is information on a region which is closer than a predetermined distance from the broadcast receiver and which has a reception sensitivity greater than a predetermined value, and regional guide information on the corresponding region; and displaying the received good reception-sensitivity information and the received regional guide information.

Abstract: A method and a device are provided for transmitting a broadcasting service in which a broadcasting service from a broadcasting station received by a broadcasting receiver is transmitted to one or more external terminals. The method includes: detecting format conversion information indicating a format that the broadcasting service is to be converted into by communicating with the external terminals; converting the broadcasting service into a format corresponding to the detected format conversion information; and transmitting the converted broadcasting service to the external terminals. Accordingly, the received broadcasting service can be used in the external terminals employing different formats.

Abstract: Provided are a method and apparatus for displaying the receptibility of a plurality of broadcasting services included in a single broadcasting channel as well as the receptibility of a digital broadcasting signal of a broadcasting channel. The method includes: receiving a plurality of broadcasting service bit streams included in a received broadcasting signal; checking a valid bit stream in the plurality of broadcasting service bit streams; and configuring a screen for displaying a service receptibility using the valid bit stream.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing advertisements in a digital broadcasting system. The method includes: multiplexing video elementary streams (ESs) for a service channel into at least two transmission streams (TSs); and storing priority information on each of the ESs, wherein the video ESs includes at least one video ES for advertisements, and their reproduction order is determined based on the priority information on each of the ESs. Therefore, an additional video stream for advertisements is added to a TS stream separately from a general video stream, thereby providing advertisements in a DMB system along with or sequentially to a general video service.

Abstract: A method and a broadcasting receiver that provide a broadcast service are provided. The method includes extracting and storing information on channels of at least one neighboring local transmitting station of a service provider adjacent to a current local transmitting station from a digital broadcast signal transmitted through a current channel from the current local transmitting station of the service provider; switching a tuning channel to another channel on the basis of the information on the channels of the at least one neighboring local transmitting station, when the channel for a current broadcast service changes from the current channel to the other channel; and decoding and outputting the same broadcast service as the current broadcast service among a plurality of broadcast services included in a digital broadcast signal transmitted through the other channel.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing location-based information are provided. The apparatus includes: an input unit, which receives information on a first location and information on a second location from a user; a decoding unit, which decodes the location-based service data contained in the broadcast signals; a control unit, which selects location-based service data regarding a region between the first and second locations from among the location-based service data decoded by the decoding unit; and a display unit, which displays the selected location-based service data. The apparatus can receive broadcast signals containing location-based service data and can provide location-based information to a user without the aid of a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, a map generator, or a storage medium in which map data is stored.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for interactively using additional data in digital audio broadcasting. The method of interactively using additional data includes: receiving additional data and storing the received additional data in a specified database; receiving a user input via a user input interface obtained by decoding information regarding a screen composition contained in service data, transforming the user input into a query that requests a search of the database, and outputting the query; and searching the database in response to the query and outputting a result of the searching.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for receiving information regarding the displaying of a service in a digital audio broadcasting (DAB) receiver via a fast information channel and for controlling the displaying of the service on the DAB receiver are provided. The method includes receiving a digital audio broadcasting transmission frame and parsing information regarding a sub channel and a service component related to a service selected by a user, and obtaining information required to display the selected service by parsing information from a channel that is differentiated from a data service channel. Accordingly, it is possible to display various types of services regardless of the DAB receiver used, thereby allowing effective use of a user interface.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for decoding multimedia object transfer (MOT) data, wherein the method includes receiving an MOT object composed of real data and metadata containing information regarding the real data and an MOT directory including the metadata and decoding the real data included in the MOT object using the metadata included in the MOT object or the metadata included in the MOT directory. In the method and apparatus, as a broadcasting service, a large media metafile is transmitted in an error-proof and time-saving way. Therefore, a receiving side can decode the large media metafile without errors, and randomly access and render it in real time.

Abstract: Provided are a method of transmitting digital broadcasts, a method and apparatus for controlling the display of digital broadcasting, and a computer-readable recording medium on which a program executing the controlling method is recorded. The method of controlling the display of digital broadcasting includes receiving an ensemble comprising at least one advertising channel and controlling so that advertisements transmitted via at least one of the advertising channels included in the received ensemble are compulsorily displayed. In this method, since digital broadcasting makes it possible to display a plurality of services, an advertising service can be displayed compulsorily, thereby delivering maximum advertising effects to a broadcasting service provider and providing digital broadcasting services to viewers at lower prices.

Accordingly, it is possible to review or store slide show data that was displayed via user interface, thereby enabling an interaction with a user.

Abstract: Provided are an apparatus and a method of encoding/decoding broadcast contents and spare contents. The method of decoding broadcast contents and spare contents includes determining whether a broadcast contents stream that is presently broadcasted can be decoded; and performing a decoding operation on the broadcast contents stream or previously stored spare contents stream selectively based on a result of determination in the determining step. The spare contents are reproduced when a receive failure happens, thus reducing an uncomfortable feeling of a user caused by watching inferior images and hearing inferior sounds.
