    Abstract: A trunk gateway simulator for use in testing a telecommunications switch includes a message receiver, a message handler, and a message transmitter. Upon receipt of a message from a telecommunications switch, the trunk gateway simulator creates an instance of the message handler in a thread to generate a response message. Once generated, the response message is transmitted to the telecommunications switch. The trunk gateway simulator may operate as a stateless device, generating a response message in accordance with a received message without reference to previous received messages. The trunk gateway simulator may employ regular expressions in parsing received messages. The trunk gateway simulator may collect statistical information on one or more attributes of the received messages.
