Abstract: Provided is a smart cruise control (SCC) system. The SCC system includes a control unit configured to determine a road environment, in which a driver's vehicle is driving, based on road information supplied from a navigation, choose a target vehicle from among preceding vehicles by using a parameter which is adaptively set depending on the determined road environment, and calculate a target acceleration of the driver's vehicle, based on the chosen target vehicle and a braking unit configured to control acceleration or deceleration of the driver's vehicle, based on the target acceleration.
