  • Patent number: 9699683
Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for detecting earliest arriving downlink signal peaks over all transmit diversity paths received at a same point in time. In an aspect, a wireless mobile device receives a wireless signal comprised of signals transmitted from a plurality of cells each providing a plurality of transmit diversity paths, calculates a channel energy response (CER) vector for each of the plurality of transmit diversity paths of each of the plurality of cells, constructs an overlaid CER vector for each of the plurality of cells, wherein the overlaid CER vector for a cell comprises an overlay of each CER vector of the plurality of transmit diversity paths of the cell, and determines an earliest arrival path of each of the plurality of cells based on the overlaid CER vector for that cell.

  • Patent number: 9664520
Abstract: Assistance data for indoor positioning is generated with vertical access areas, such as stairs, elevators, and escalators, identified along with predicted vertical movement models for the vertical access area. The predicted vertical movement models provide probabilities of movement to different floors by the vertical access areas. The assistance data may be generated by acquiring a floor plan data for a structure having multiple floors and analyzing the floor plan data to detect vertical access areas. The predicted vertical movement model for the vertical access area may then be generated and included in the assistance data along with the vertical access area. Mobile devices using the assistance data may provide vertical access area feedback information that may be used to modify the assistance data. For example, the probability of movement to different floors by a vertical access area may be modified, or additional vertical access areas identified.

  • Publication number: 20170094631
Abstract: Method, device, computer program product, and apparatus to enable mobile device position optimization and reporting are described. Signals provided by a plurality of base transceiver stations (BTS) are received to determine a BTS-based position of the mobile device. A reference position of the mobile device is determined. A range measurement with respect to a target BTS is determined. In one aspect, one or more unreliable BTSs may be detected and reported based on a positioning measurement quality, a range measurement quality, or combinations thereof. In one aspect, the positioning measurement quality is determined based on a difference between the reference position of the mobile device and the BTS-based position of the mobile device. In one aspect, the range measurement quality is determined based on a difference between a measured range/distance and a reference/expected range/distance.

  • Publication number: 20170074972
Abstract: Disclosed are methods, systems and devices for providing location based services in a venue. To estimate its location, in a particular implementation, a mobile device may obtain a measurement of a range to a transponder device positioned at a known location based on measurements of a signal round-trip time (RTT) in a message exchange with the transponder device. Positioning assistance data from a server may enable the mobile device to measure a delay at the transponder device in providing a response to a probe message to thereby more accurately measure the signal RTT.

  • Patent number: 9588216
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for processing positioning assistance data are provided. An exemplary method includes receiving, from a positioning server, virtual access point (VAP) data including a list of unique identifiers, and determining a location of a mobile device by using the VAP. The VAP data indicates that the unique identifiers included on the list identify signals originating from the same physical access point. The unique identifiers can be MAC addresses. In an example, the location determining the can include actively scanning a signal identified by a unique identifier on the list and not actively scanning a different signal identified by a different unique identifier also on the list. Not scanning the other MAC addresses that are on the access point's list and assigned to the mobile device keeps the mobile device from performing duplicative scanning that wastes time, processor cycles, and energy.

  • Publication number: 20160131733
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and devices are disclosed to estimate a position of a mobile device using, for example, beacon signals transmitted using virtual access points utilizing a single, physical transceiver. Determination that beacon signals emanate from a single, physical transceiver may be based, at least in part, on a similarity among acquired beacon signals conveying identifiers, such as media access control identification (MAC ID) addresses and/or basic service set identifiers (BSSIDs), and on measurement of beacon signal characteristics, such as received signal strength at a mobile device and/or round trip time between the mobile device and the transceiver.
