Abstract: Disclosed is a method for producing a three-dimensional composite structure and a method for producing the mold for the three-dimensional composite structure. The mold is formed of at least one rigid die member and a second thermoplastic die member. The second thermoplastic die member is formed by coupling a rubber flexible pattern to a surface of the first die member. Vacuum or pressure is applied to a heated thermoplastic sheet to cause the heated thermoplastic sheet to deform about the flexible pattern, thereby forming the second die. Strips of reinforced polymer thermoset pre-preg material are then positioned within the cavities formed by the flexible pattern and are allowed to cure. Optionally, heat, pressure, and vacuum may be applied to the mold construction to facilitate the curing of the thermoset materials.

Abstract: A brace for the knee utilizing a flexible cage tightly wrapped about the knee from which the brace structure is suspended and utilizing polycentric hinges at the cage lateral regions including arms having controlled ranges of pivotal movement, the upper hinge arms being attached to a cup embracing the thigh and the lower hinge arms attaching to a cuff affixed to the lower leg. Straps drawing the cage tightly to the knee affixed to the cuffs suspend the brace from the cage, and the polycentric hinges accurately control the extent of leg flexion and extension. The hinge arms are interconnected through a gear and rack relationship, and stops associated with the rack limit arm movement.

Abstract: The invention pertains to a traction brace for the head and neck wherein a head engaging ring is supported upon a torso-mounted vest. The vest consists of lateral sections interconnected by central parting lines and fasteners, and the head engaging ring is mounted upon columns extending above the vest sections. The apparatus is characterized by the accessibility to the patient that is provided.
