  • Patent number: 4384745
Abstract: A pressure reducer for hydraulic brake systems comprising a valve formed by the head of a spring-loaded piston and by a sealing ring which is urged by a spring against a step of the housing. Arranged between the spring and the sealing ring is an engaging plate which is carried along by the piston after the piston has travelled an amount smaller than the valve stroke. This results in an exactly defined valve stroke and at the same time results in a quick opening of the valve upon decrease of the inlet pressure.

  • Patent number: 4362339
Abstract: Brake systems having an antiskid control apparatus are known in which pressure fluid is additionally supplied from a dynamic circuit into the static brake circuit when pressure fluid has been taken therefrom due to an antiskid control operation. In this situation, the known systems were not able to maintain the master cylinder pressure at a constant value. Therefore, according to the present invention a valve device is provided which is acted upon by the static master cylinder pressure in the opening direction and by the dynamic auxiliary pressure in the closing direction.

  • Patent number: 4347779
Abstract: To reduce the overall weight of a vacuum brake booster, the booster housing is provided with an axially extending central tube connecting the end walls of the housing in order to transmit the occurring axial forces. Two separate pistons are provided, a differential pressure piston surrounding the tube and a control valve piston disposed in the bore of the tube. Both pistons are connected with one another by radial pins extending through axial slots in the tube. The differential pressure piston is sealed by a diaphragm which progressively covers the slots when this piston moves in an operational direction. This arrangement reduces the axial length of the booster housing.

  • Patent number: 4340257
Abstract: Hydraulic brake systems are known including a master cylinder, wheel brake cylinder and antiskid control apparatus in which a fluid flow from a fluid source to the pressure chamber of the master cylinder is controlled by a valve device. The antiskid control apparatus activate valves to modulate the pressure in the associated wheel cylinders in the event of an imminent locked condition of a wheel. The known valve devices are complicated and do not permit determining the operability of the brake system before reaching a change-over point. To obviate these disadvantages, the valve device of the present invention feeds pressure from an auxiliary circuit in case of a corresponding decline in pressure from the master cylinder to the wheel cylinders. In the inactive state of the valve device, a pressure fluid connection is opened between a chamber defined by a booster piston and a fluid reservoir and this connection is closed upon actuation of the valve device, i.e.

  • Patent number: 4283994
Abstract: A power brake unit for automotive vehicles comprising a brake valve through which pressure-transmitting fluid is metered from a fluid source into a booster chamber to actuate a booster piston. A hydraulic transmission ratio provided by an input piston connected to a brake pedal and an operating piston connected to the brake valve reduces the pedal actuating travel when the fluid source is intact and is ineffective in the event of a failure of the fluid source. Only non-boosted forces are transmitted through the hydraulic transmission ratio. Should the fluid source fail, the hydraulic transmission ratio is rendered inoperative in a simple and safe manner.

  • Patent number: 4251114
Abstract: A brake valve comprising two coaxial, tandemly arranged control spools each connecting a different one of two brake circuits to either an associated pressure fluid source or an associated unpressurized reservoir. A first of the two control spools is actuated mechanically by a brake pedal and the second of the two control spools is actuated by the brake pressure controlled by the first of the two control spools. In order for the second of the two control spools to meter the same pressure into the associated brake circuit as the first of the two control spools, the second of the two control spools has two additional effective surfaces, one of which is acted upon by the brake pressure controlled by the first of the two control spools in the direction of actuation and the other of which is acted upon by the brake pressure metered into that one of the two brake circuits controlled by the second of the two control spools.

  • Patent number: 4244185
Abstract: A master cylinder includes a master cylinder piston which is slidable by a booster with a hydraulic transmission interposed between the booster and the master cylinder piston. The booster includes two booster pistons the first of which has the same effective area as the master cylinder piston. With the system intact, the master cylinder piston is shifted as a result of the pressure fluid displaced by the two booster pistons to provide the hydraulic transmission. In the event of failure of the booster, the master cylinder piston is actuated directly by mechanical means through the first booster piston with the hydraulic transmission thereby being omitted.
