  • Patent number: 11525321
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for controlling release of torsional energy from a drill string having a lower portion that is stuck against a subterranean formation and a top end rotated by a top drive. The method may include decreasing a rotational speed set-point of the top drive, decreasing a torque set-point of the top drive, and/or decreasing flow rate of drilling mud being pumped downhole via the drill string, thereby decreasing torque output by a mud motor rotating a drill bit. The method may further include lifting the drill string to free the drill string. Decreasing the torque set-point of the top drive may comprise decreasing the torque set-point of the top drive to a minimum torque level that the top drive can output. Decreasing the rotational speed set-point of the top drive may comprise decreasing the rotational speed set-point of the top drive to zero.

  • Publication number: 20220127932
Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring equipment of multiple drill rigs. Each drill rig comprises multiple equipment units collectively operable to perform well construction operations to construct a well. An example monitoring system may be operable to receive operational data from each drill rig, determine operational status of each drill rig based at least partially on the operational data, and determine operational health indicators for each equipment unit of each drill rig based at least partially on the operational data. Each operational health indicator is indicative of operational health of a corresponding equipment unit with respect to a different operational health category. The monitoring system may be further operable to display the operational status for each drill rig, including the operational health indicators for each equipment unit of each drill rig, as a single page on a video output device.

  • Publication number: 20220128967
Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring operational health of an equipment unit. An example system may include a plurality of sensors operable to facilitate operational measurements indicative of operational status of the equipment unit, a video output device, and a processing device comprising a processor and a memory storing an executable program code. The processing device may be communicatively connected with the sensors and the video output device. The processing device may be operable to receive the operational measurements and determine a plurality of operational health indicators based at least partially on the operational measurements. Each operational health indicator may be indicative of operational health of the equipment unit with respect to a different operational health category. The processing device may then output the operational health indicators for display on the video output device.

  • Publication number: 20220027862
Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring and diagnosis of equipment health. An example method may include commencing operation of a monitoring system of a well construction system to cause the monitoring system to receive sensor data facilitated by sensors disposed in association with a corresponding piece of equipment, detect an abnormal condition associated with a piece of equipment based on the sensor data, and output abnormal condition information indicative of the abnormal condition to a first communication device.

  • Publication number: 20210198980
Abstract: A method may include obtaining a request for a virtual reality (VR) image of a first VR area among a plurality of VR areas proximate a drilling rig. The first VR area may be associated with at least one drilling rig device. The method may include obtaining, a captured image from a camera device disposed in the first VR area. The method may include determining a VR user perspective based on motion tracking data of a VR user device. The method may include generating, using the captured image, a VR image from the VR user perspective. The method may be performed by a VR manager.

  • Publication number: 20200399988
Abstract: A method includes performing a first rig operation using rig equipment, the first operation includes a make-up connection operation, a touch-bottom operation, or both. The method includes measuring operating parameters while performing the first rig operation, generating a baseline dataset based on measurements of the operating parameters taken while performing the first rig operation, performing a second rig operation using the rig equipment, measuring the operating parameters while performing the second rig operation, generating a current dataset based on measurements of the operating parameters, determining a health index value for the rig equipment by comparing the baseline dataset and the current dataset; and adjusting drilling rig parameters based on the health index value. Adjusting the one or more drilling rig parameters includes adjusting a level of operational load of the rig equipment, adjusting a throttle of the rig equipment, or adjusting a drilling technique employing the rig equipment.
