  • Patent number: 5397560
Abstract: A novel microporous crystalline aluminosilicate designated DCM-2 is disclosed. The composition, as synthesized, contains lithium cations and is represented by the oxide composition: Li.sub.2 O.multidot.Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 .multidot.10SiO.sub.2. The lithium cations may be exchanged with hydrogen ions, and in the acid form the composition is useful as an adsorbent and as a catalyst for converting alkyl halides and alkanols to light hydrocarbons.

  • Patent number: 5374411
Abstract: Crystalline aluminumphosphate compositions having three-dimensional microporous crystal framework structures whose chemical composition expressed in terms of mole ratios is Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 :1.0.+-.P.sub.2 O.sub.5 are disclosed. These compositions have an X-ray diffraction pattern characterized by d spacings at less than about 40 degrees two-theta as measured using copper K-alpha radiation that are substantially as shown in Table 1. The compositions can further comprise a structure-directing agent. Preparation is by admixing an aluminum source, a phosphorus source and 10-100 moles of water per mole of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 to form a precursor mixture, admixing the precursor mixture with the structure-directing agent to form a reaction mixture, and reacting the reaction mixture under conditions such that an aluminumphosphate composition of the given X-ray diffraction pattern is formed.

  • Patent number: 5202516
Abstract: A process of recovering monoalkylbenzene and pure 1,3,5-trialkylbenzene from an isomeric mixture containing dialkyl- and trialkylbenzenes. The process comprises transalkylating a monocyclic aromatic compound with a mixture of dialkyl- and trialkyl-benzenes in the presence of an acidic mordenite zeolite under conditions such that monoalkylbenzene and predominantly 1,3,5-trialkylbenzene are formed. 1,3,5-trialkylbenzene is isolated in pure form from a mixture of the same and 1,2,4- and/or 1,2,3-trialkylbenzene by use of a dealuminated zeolite Y adsorbent.

  • Patent number: 5175135
Abstract: Aromatic compounds, such as benzene or biphenyl, are alkylated with an alkylating agent having from one to eight carbons atoms, such as propylene, in the presence of an acidic mordenite zeolite catalyst under conditions sufficient to produce a mixture of substituted aromatic compounds enriched in the linear alkylated isomers, such as p-diisopropylbenzene or p,p'-di(isopropyl)biphenyl, respectively. The novel acidic mordenite catalyst is characterized by its silica/alumina molar ratio, its porosity, and a Symmetry Index. The p,p'-disubstituted isomers of aromatic compounds are useful as monomers in the preparation of thermotropic, liquid crystal polymers.

  • Patent number: 5015797
Abstract: Polycyclic aromatic compounds, such as biphenyl, are alkylated with an alkylating agent, such as propylene, in the presence of an acidic mordenite zeolite catalyst under conditions sufficient to produce a mixture of substituted polycyclic aromatic compounds enriched in the linear- and near linear-alkylated isomers, such as p,p'- and p,m'-di(isopropyl)biphenyl. The novel acidic mordenite catalyst is characterized by its silica/alumina molar ratio, its porosity, and a Symmetry Index. Mixtures of the p,p'- and p,m'-disubstituted isomers of polycyclic aromatic compounds are useful as monomers in the preparation of improved thermotropic, liquid crystal polymers.

  • Patent number: 4996388
Abstract: A process of separating the ortho, meta and para isomers of ethyltoluene. One aspect employs a ferrierite absorbent which separates the para isomer from a mixture of the same and at least one of the meta and ortho isomers. A second aspect employs a silicalite absorbent which separates the ortho isomer from a mixture of the same and the meta isomer. A third aspect combines the ferrierite and silicalite absorbents in sequence to separate a mixture of the ortho, meta and para isomers into the essentially pure compounds.

  • Patent number: 4902442
Abstract: A prereaction mixture which is useful in the preparation of porous silica compositions with uniform pore sizes. The porous silica composition comprises a substituted nitrogen-containing siliconate, a colloidal silica and a soluble alkali silicate. By the addition of the substituted nitrogen containing siliconate to either the colloidal silica or soluble silicate, or by combining all three ingredients, a stable solution results, thereby avoiding the premature polymerization of the colloidal silica upon the addition of the soluble silicate. The soluble alkali silicate can have a metal cation which is selected from the group consisting of potassium and sodium.
