  • Patent number: 11807159
Abstract: A trim for an object and its method of manufacture involve providing a transparent or translucent substrate defining a top surface, applying an opaque layer above the top surface of the substrate, the opaque layer defining one or more apertures through which light can pass, and applying one or more translucent metallic-looking layers above a top surface of the opaque layer. In some implementations, the trim is a selectively illuminable trim whereby a light source is arranged beneath a bottom surface of the substrate, the light source being configured to output light through the substrate, the one or more apertures defined by the opaque layer, and the one or more metallic-looking layers.

  • Publication number: 20220056607
Abstract: A selectively chrome plated object having a substantially flush interface comprises a first portion formed by injection molding a plateable resin and defining a first top surface, a second portion formed by injection molding a non-plateable resin and defining a second top surface, the second portion sitting proud of the first portion such that the second top surface of the second portion is offset from the first top surface of the first portion, and a third portion formed by a chrome plating process where a chrome plating is applied to the first top surface of the first portion such that a third top surface of the third portion is substantially flush with the second top surface of the second portion.

  • Publication number: 20210394687
Abstract: An illuminated emblem assembly with improved homogeneity includes an emblem body comprising emblem edges, a housing comprising a chamber, a light source positioned at a second end of the chamber, and a light guide positioned over a housing aperture, the light guide having a proximal side facing the emblem body and a distal side facing the light source. Light enters the light guide through a housing-side entry surface disposed on the distal side. A first exit surface is defined by a first proximal edge of the proximal side and a first distal edge of the distal side. A second exit surface is defined by a second proximal edge and a second distal edge. The illuminated emblem assembly includes a reflector that directs light exiting a reflector-side transmissive surface of the light guide back through and toward the first exit surface and the second exit surface.
