    Abstract: The present invention provides surgical drilling devices and methods. An exemplary surgical drilling device in accordance with the present invention comprises a housing, a retractable guide tube assembly, and a flexible cable drill. The retractable guide tube assembly comprises an arcuate guide tube slidingly positioned in a first arcuate channel of the housing. The arcuate guide tube is operatively connected to an actuating rod slidingly positioned in a second channel of the housing wherein the actuating rod controllably advances and retracts the arcuate guide tube. The flexible cable drill comprises a first portion slidingly positioned in the arcuate guide tube and a second portion slidingly positioned in a third channel of the housing.

The coupling member has a hole extending from the base portion of the channel to its lower surface. The assembly further includes a spacer having a top surface adjacent the base portion of the channel and a bottom surface generally opposite the top surface within the hole of the coupling member, and includes a hollow retaining ring within the hole of the coupling member, the retaining ring comprising an inner surface, an outer surface, a top surface spaced from the bottom surface of the spacer, and a slot extending from the inner surface of the ring to the outer surface of the ring. The assembly includes a bone screw having a head portion with an outer surface adjacent to the inner surface of the retaining ring.

    Abstract: A spinal implant assembly is provided for stabilizing the spine. The assembly includes an elongated plate, bolts, and nuts. The plate is fixed to vertebrae spanning an injury or deformity to a disc or vertebra using the bolts and nuts. Screws can provide additional stability. The nuts are configured to extend through the plate to clamp the plate between collars on both the bolts and nuts.

    Abstract: A spinal implant system is provided for correcting spinal abnormalities. The system involves connectors configured to fit over spinal implant rods, a transverse rod, and a locking member for fixing each connector to the spinal implant rod and transverse rod. The connector is configured such that when the locking member is in a first position, the transverse rod is temporarily fixed to the connector, and when the locking member is in a second position, both the transverse rod and spinal implant rod are fixed to the connector.
