The invention further encompasses the use of agents that modulate the level or functional activity of such an aberrant expression product for treating or preventing cancer, especially prostate cancer.

    Abstract: The present invention is directed to novel TTYH2 polynucleotides whose expression is modulated in cancers or tumours and especially in renal cell carcinoma. More particularly, the invention is directed to isolated TTYH2 polynucleotides and the TTYH2 polypeptides encoded thereby. The invention is further directed to methods for detecting the presence or diagnosing the risk of a cancer by detecting aberrant expression of a gene selected from TTYH2 or a gene belonging to the same biosynthetic or regulatory pathway as TTYH2. Also disclosed is the use of the aforementioned polypeptides and polynucleotides in screening for agents that modulate the expression of a gene or the level and or functional activity of an expression product of that gene, wherein the gene is selected from TTYH2 or a gene belonging to the same biosynthetic or regulatory pathway as TTYH2.
