  • Patent number: 8914697
Abstract: In general, this disclosure relates to various techniques for detecting corrupt bits in a data stream. The techniques may allow a data storage device to detect corrupt bits prior to transformation of the data stream and subsequent to transformation of the data stream. A data storage device may include a first error-related code generating unit configured to generate a first error-related code based on received data and combine the first error-related code and the received data to generate a first data stream. The data storage device may further include a transform unit configured to transform the first data stream to a transformed data stream. The data storage device may also include a second error-related code generating unit configured to generate a second error-related code based on the transformed data stream.

  • Patent number: 7359397
Abstract: Method and apparatus for prioritizing outbound data transfers across a serial data transmission interface to a connected device. An interface circuit includes a memory block in which outbound frames are temporarily stored pending transfer to the connected device, the outbound frames characterized as single frames having a command word payload and data frames which include a user data payload. A port successively establishes connections with corresponding ports of the connected device in response to connection requests associated with the outbound frames in the memory block. A prioritization circuit places single frame connection requests into a first queue and data frame connection requests into a second queue. Single frame connection requests are further placed into the second queue when the port fails to establish a successful connection. The connection requests in the first queue are forwarded to the port before the connection requests in the second queue.

  • Patent number: 7064683
Abstract: An encoder apparatus is provided, which includes an upper encoder and first and second lower encoders. The upper encoder has an upper encoded output and a corresponding upper running disparity. The first and second lower encoders have respective first and second lower encoded outputs. The first lower encoder generates the first lower encoded output assuming the upper running disparity has a first state. The second lower encoder generates the second lower encoded output assuming the upper running disparity has a second, different state. A multiplexer multiplexes the first and second lower encoded outputs based on the upper running disparity.
