    Abstract: A process is provided for reacting dichloromonophenyl phosphate and monochlorodiphenyl phosphate with aliphatic alcohol in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst and absence of solvent, at a temperature above 60 to 200° C. and pressure of 0.001 to 1.1 bara, and sparging the reaction mixture with an inert carrier gas if the pressure is above 0.67 bars. Mixtures of monoalkyl biphenyl phosphates and dialkyl monophenyl phosphates and use of such mixtures as a plasticizer and/or flame retardant, are also provided.
