Patent number: 7146318Abstract: A method for detecting pauses in speech signals is disclosed in which the frequency spectrum is divided into two or more sub-bands. Samples of the signals on the sub-bands are stored at intervals, the energy levels of the sub-bands are determined on the basis of the stored samples, a power threshold value (thr) is determined, and the energy levels of the sub-bands are compared with said power threshold value (thr) . A subband minimum is set and a detection time limit is set so that, in a noise situation, a speech pause can be verified by checking to determine if each pause detected remains for the duration of the detection time limit and if a pause is detected in at least said minimum subbands.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 2004Date of Patent: December 5, 2006Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Kari Laurila, Juha Häkkinen, Ramalingam Hariharan

Patent number: 7139697Abstract: A method for selecting the language for a character sequence fed into a data processing device, wherein decision trees are trained for different characters on the basis of lexicons of predetermined languages. The decision trees describe language probabilities on the basis of characters in the environments of the characters. The decision trees for at least some of the characters of the character sequence fed into the data processing device are traversed, thus obtaining a probability of at least one language for each character. The language for the character sequence is selected on the basis of the probabilities obtained.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2002Date of Patent: November 21, 2006Assignee: Nokia Mobile Phones LimitedInventors: Juha Häkkinen, Markku Mettälä

Patent number: 6965770Abstract: A method and system for establishing a dynamic content delivery system (DCDS) is disclosed. In one embodiment, a Bluetooth enabled mobile communications unit is used to communicate with a server in order to make a request for the delivery of specific content, such as a song, video, or the like, to a separate output device, such as a loudspeaker, a display screen, or the like. In another embodiment the content is delivered back to the requesting mobile communications device. In some embodiments, hybrid networks may be used for requesting and delivering content. The test arrangement includes providing means connected to the RF circuit, the providing means for providing the RF circuit to be tested with an input test signal, thus generating an RF output test signal characterizing the response of the RF circuit, and down-converting means connected to the RF circuit and integrated at least partially into the RF circuit, the down-converting means for down-converting the RF output test signal to a BB frequency, thus generating a BB output test signal. The invention provides access to the RF circuit by using relatively simple test instrumentation operating at a base band frequency.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2003Publication date: March 31, 2005Inventors: Juha Hakkinen, Pekka Syri, Markku Moilanen

Patent number: 5963901Abstract: The invention concerns a voice activity detection device in which an input speech signal (x(n)) is divided in subsignals (S(s)) representing specific frequency bands and noise (N(s)) is estimated in the subsignals. On basis of the estimated noise in the subsignals, subdecision signals (SNR(s)) are generated and a voice activity decision (V.sub.ind) for the input speech signal is formed on basis of the subdecision signals. Spectrum components of the input speech signal and a noise estimate are calculated and compared. More specifically a signal-to-noise ratio is calculated for each subsignal and each signal-to-noise ratio represents a subdecision signal (SNR(s)). From the signal-to-noise ratios a value proportional to their sum is calculated and compared with a threshold value and a voice activity decision signal (V.sub.ind) for the input speech signal is formed on basis of the comparison.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 1996Date of Patent: October 5, 1999Assignee: Nokia Mobile Phones Ltd.Inventors: Antti Vahatalo, Juha Hakkinen, Erkki Paajanen

The noise suppressor further comprises recombination means (60) for recombining a second amount of subsignals (X, P) into a calculation signal (S), which represents a certain second frequency range, which is wider than the first frequency ranges and determination means (200) for determining a suppression coefficient (G) for the calculation signal (S) based upon the noise contained by it.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 1996Date of Patent: November 17, 1998Assignee: Nokia Mobile Phones Ltd.Inventors: Antti Vahatalo, Juha Hakkinen, Erkki Paajanen, Ville-Veikko Mattila
