  • Patent number: 7400881
Abstract: The invention relates to a method a method for routing calls and messages in a communication system. In the method a mobile station registers to a call control node using a logical name. The logical name is mapped in a directory to an international mobile subscriber identity. The call control node performs a location update to a home location register using the international mobile subscriber identity. The mobile station is reached using a called party number. As a terminating call or message is received to a core network, a roaming number is allocated for the mobile station, and the call or message is routed to the call control entity currently serving the mobile station. The call control node translates the called party number to the logical name using the directory.

  • Publication number: 20080153499
Abstract: Ring-back content is provided to a mobile video caller willing to call a recipient in a process in which: the ring-back content is stored, a first communication leg is established between an intermediate network element and the mobile video caller, a second communication leg is established between the intermediate network element and the recipient, and the delivery of the ring-back content to the mobile video caller is started between the initiating of the mobile video call and answering to the call by the recipient. The delivery of the ring-back content may be lead by an early connect message to delay charging. On establishing the second communication leg, no connect message is passed to the caller, but the charging of the mobile video call is started.

  • Publication number: 20080004007
Abstract: A mechanism for controlling a call management for a call of a subscriber, in particular a service parameter adjustment, comprises a transmission of a request for adjusting settings of a service provided to a subscriber to a network control element, recognition of setting information for the service from the request, and processing of the setting information for the service. In the processing, a mapping of the recognized setting information for the service to a modification event of a data portion including parameters for the service in question is performed and a modification of the parameters for the service in question is performed by executing the modification event of the data portion obtained by the mapping. In case the data portion is not available, a search may be conducted in order to get access to the parameters for the service in question.

  • Patent number: 7181202
Abstract: A method in a communication system is disclosed. In the method a procedure for setting up a communication link between a first user equipment and a second user equipment via a communications network is initiated. Information regarding at least two modes of communication that can be used for communication via the communication link is signalled between the first and second user equipment. An indicator regarding a mode to be used for the communication is also signalled between the first user equipment and the second user equipment. After the signalling steps, a procedure for setting the mode of communication in accordance with the indicator is initiated in at least in one of the user equipment. According to an alternative embodiment signalling for reserving a possibility for at least tow different communication modes occurs between elements of the communication system.

  • Publication number: 20060258358
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for performing inter-system handovers in a communication system comprising at least a mobile station, a call state control function, a first and a second call control node, a first and a second media gateway and a radio network node. The handover is achieved by way of connecting a call control node to a call state control function. The call control node allocates a media gateway for the session established. The session media bearers are routed via the media gateway. The call control node acts as an anchor node for the handover. As the mobile station moves to a new cell a media bearer is established to the media gateway from the mobile station via the new cell.

  • Publication number: 20060250955
Abstract: Quality of a connection between a terminal and a gateway is monitored in the gateway. The gateway informs a core network element handling signaling relating to the connection about the quality of the connection. The core network element triggers an access network control element to inform the terminal about the quality of the connection. The gateway or the core network element may determine when to trigger the access network control element. Upon receiving triggering information from the core network element, the access network control element informs the terminal about the quality of the connection for indicating changes in the quality of connection between the terminal and the gateway.

  • Publication number: 20060002327
Abstract: A method, network element, and communication system relates to at least two network elements, each having at least one endpoint for transmitting or receiving traffic information to or from another network element. At least one of the network elements includes at least one storage which stores information on the traffic-information-receiving availability of at least one endpoint of at least one other network element. The at least one storage stores IP addresses of the endpoints of the other network elements, and, associated with each IP address, the information on the traffic-information-receiving availability thereof. Each endpoint has an individual storage which is updated on a regular or irregular basis. The endpoints can be signalling units such as SIP-T/I endpoints. The communication can be based on Session Initiation Protocol, or SIP.

  • Publication number: 20050243746
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for inspecting a session in a packet data network, wherein a set-up message is selectively routed to a predetermined server node (4001, 4002) and processed there. A media resource function (3021, 3022) is controlled based on the processing so as to bind incoming and outgoing data streams in order to relay the session via the media resource function. Thereby, a mechanism for providing charging, filtering and logging services for sessions, such as peer-to-peer chat sessions, is provided without requiring any new network entity or modification of existing network specifications.

  • Patent number: 6912384
Abstract: A method and system for automatically switching cellular telephone calls, in which a cellular telephone monitors the level of its battery power, and when the battery power level dips below a predetermined threshold, the cellular telephone sends a signal to a mobile switching center, which will automatically transfer the call to an alternate phone to continue the call or leave a message. The same system could be used to transfer the call if the cellular telephone goes out of service, for example by leaving the service area, hitting a “dead zone” of service, or having a technical problem with the equipment, but in these circumstances, the signal for initiating the transfer will originate with the mobile switching center, since the cellular telephone will not be in position to send further instructions.

  • Publication number: 20050058125
Abstract: A mechanism for providing a connection from an IP-based network to a circuit-switched network, such as a GSM network is disclosed. A temporary routing number for the circuit-switched network, such as an E.164 number, is delivered to a user terminal, and a circuit-switched call leg is established from the user terminal to the IP-based network using the routing number. Thereby, IMS-services are provided for end users which are located in the radio access network not having sufficient QoS required for voice over IP. In the example of a conference call service, a request for a conference call may forwarded via a data channel or data path to an application server which provides that conference call service. The application server then selects a conference routing number and returns the routing number to the conference host terminal via the data channel. Using the received conference routing number, the conference host terminal can then set up a circuit-switched connection as a call leg of the conference call.

  • Publication number: 20040190498
Abstract: A method, system and gateway device enables interworking between an IP-based network and a circuit-switched network. A first address information of a first connection end located in the circuit-switched network is routed in a trigger message from the IP-based network to a gateway control function. The first and second call legs are established in parallel towards the first connection end based on the first address information, and towards a second connection end located in the IP-based network based on a second address information obtained from the trigger message. A single connection between the two connection ends is then established by connecting the first and second call legs. Thereby, IP-based signaling functionality can be used to add capability for subscribers located in the CS domain to be invited into conferences or calls with subscribers located in an IP-based domain, e.g. the IMS domain.
