  • Patent number: 8630169
Abstract: In accordance with an example embodiment of the present invention, a communications apparatus participates in a packet-based communication, obtains a temperature of the apparatus, and compares the temperature of the apparatus to a threshold temperature, and responsive to a result of the comparison, the apparatus starts dropping packets pertaining to the packet-based communication in the protocol layer.

  • Patent number: 5269846
Abstract: A deflection-compensated doctor blade beam of a coater used for coating web materials. The doctor blade beam comprises a box-section frame (3), together with a holder (2) of the doctor blade (8), and a support tube (4) placed inside the frame (3). The support tube (4) is backed against the frame (3) preferably with three asymmetrically placed compensating elements (5), which advantageously are pressurized hoses. The deflection of the doctor blade beam is accomplished by varying the volume of the compensating elements (5) through pressure alterations in the elements. A displacement of desired direction can be achieved by differentially pressurizing the three compensating elements (5). By using this apparatus, the deflection of the doctor blade can be compensated to full straightness. The compensating system is controlled with the help of a feedback loop using data from a direct measurement of beam deflection, or alternatively, from the coat thickness profile.

  • Patent number: 5244448
Abstract: The invention concerns a method and apparatus for regulating the temperature of an adjustable-crown roll. The roll mantle (12) arranged to revolve on the stationary axle (11) of the roll (10) is loaded by passing a pressure medium into a pressure chamber (15) or series of chambers formed between the axle (11) and the mantle (12) so as to correct the deflection of the roll mantle (12). The roll (10) is additionally heated/cooled by passing heating/cooling fluid into the roll (10). The heating/cooling fluid used for the regulation of the temperature of the roll (10) is introduced into the roll (10) so as to be substantially uniformly distributed over the surface area of the roll (10) such that heat is removed or produced in the radial direction of the roll.

  • Patent number: 5104697
Abstract: The invention concerns a blade coater and a method for coating a web backed by a rotatable backing roll. The blade coater unit includes a support structure, a feeder mounted to the support structure and capable of feeding the coating mix onto the web when brought close to the web in running conditions, and a smoothing device arranged to the immediate vicinity of the web for the application of the fed coating mix. The blade coater unit is essentially placed below the backing roll, the smoothing device is a flexible blade having a tip inclination angle .alpha. less than 20.degree., and the feeder has a narrow exit opening arranged to the stem of the flexible blade without any essential steps in order to facilitate a fast, laminar flow of the coating mix. The approach in accordance with the invention achieves a coat of high quality.

  • Patent number: 4964364
Abstract: This publication describes a short-dwell coater for coating a web with coating mix against a rotating backing roll. The coater comprises a support structure, a feeder means adapted to the front lip for feeding the coating mix into an application zone formed between the backing roll and the support structure, and an actual doctor blade, adapted into the support structure to press against the web, with which blade the excess coating mix passing over form the application zone can be removed. According to the invention, a separate predoctoring blade is adapted at a short distance before the actual doctor blade in the machine direction of the web for smoothing out disturbances in the coating mix flow before the mix proceeds up to the actual doctor blade.

  • Patent number: 4873939
Abstract: A short-dwell coater coats a web positioned against a backing roll with coating mix. The coater comprises a front lip as a part of the coater support structure, a feeder device adjacent the front lip for feeding the coating mix onto the paper web, a mouth piece (4, 5) forming an extension of the feeder device and forming an application zone (8) against the web (9), and a doctor blade mounted rearward of the application zone with respect to the forward machine direction. This blade doctoring the excess coating mix away from the web. The coater further comprises an intermediate lip (6) positioned between the feeder device and the doctor blade in conjunction with the front lip and forming together with web a space capable of acting as the application zone.
