Abstract: A portable memory device for use with a USB-supporting computer includes a USB connector, an integrated circuit memory for writing and reading data, and a USB interface, connected between the USB connector and the memory, for interfacing with the computer, and a housing for accommodating the memory and the USB interface. The memory device is used as a portable memory medium such as a floppy disk. The USB memory device is less dangerous of data loss caused by dusts or shock. Additionally, the USB memory device can be used as an electronic security key device of a computer or a computer-based system.

Abstract: An advertising system and method using a lotto game. The advertising system provides a user with a free-of-charge lotto game in payment for the exposure of advertising messages, enables the user having a lotto-game subscription coupon manufactured by an advertiser to enjoy the free-of-charge lotto game such that it can encourage the user to aggressively view the advertising messages of the advertiser by himself or herself, resulting in the maximum advertising effect of the desired advertisement.

Abstract: A method for upgrading firmware (F/W) of a wireless communications device is capable of updating F/W at all times through a simple process by transferring, directly and wirelessly, new firmware required for the wireless communications device from a base station. In the F/W upgrade method, a user's identification of the wireless communications device and information required for F/W upgrade are transferred to the corresponding base station, and the current mode of the wireless communications device is converted into an F/W upgrade mode according to whether or not the corresponding base station allows the upgrade, which is determined based on the transferred information. Then, F/W of the wireless communications device is wirelessly upgraded by the corresponding base station.

Abstract: An apparatus for controlling a disk player used for a computer system and a method therefor. The apparatus includes a disk information storing unit for storing disk position information, a disk information reading unit for reading information on the position of the disk in which the playing of the disk is stopped in the disk player, a controller for controlling the disk player such that the information of a disk stop position read from the disk information reading unit is stored in the disk information storing unit when the playing of the disk is stopped in the player, and the information stored in the disk information storing unit is read to begin playing of the disk from the stopped position when playing of the disk is resumed. When a reproduction operation of the disk is stopped, the disk ID number and stop position information is stored, and the playing of the disk is controlled to resume playing of the disk, with reference to the information.

Abstract: A communications card, PCMCIA card, with a retractable BNC connector receptacle built into one edge of the card. The BNC connector receptacle can be rectangular or have an X-shape and is thinner than the PCMCIA card when retracted. The retractable BNC connector receptacle allows the PCMCIA card to directly interface with an external BNC connector without using an adapter. Having a retractable receptacle makes it easier to store the PCMCIA card and built-in connector. This new communications card and BNC connector receptacle will increase the efficiency of computer use and will increase the ease of data transmission.
