  • Patent number: 9237220
Abstract: An approach is provided for collaborative context data sensing and communications. A context platform determines context data from a plurality of devices. The context platform processes and/or facilitates a processing of the context data to determine scheduling information for causing, at least in part, a sensing, a transmission, or a combination thereof of additional context data by at least one of the plurality of devices. The context platform then determines the additional context data based, at least in part, on the scheduling information.

  • Patent number: 8812232
Abstract: An approach is provided for energy-efficient location tracking. An energy saving module obtains measured location data of the user equipment, and determines a function to forecast locations of the user equipment based on the measured location data to output forecast location data. The energy saving module further receives movement data from a sensor of the user equipment, and converts the movement data to converted location data. The energy saving module then compares the forecast location data with the converted location data for a deviation, and then it either initiates reporting of the deviation when the deviation exceeds a predetermined range, or disables the reporting of the deviation when the deviation is within the predetermined range.

  • Patent number: 8554784
Abstract: Discovering peer-to-peer content using metadata streams involves capturing, for each of a plurality of devices, a content and metadata stream that describes a context of the content. The metadata streams are sent to a metadata repository contemporaneously with the capture of the content by the respective devices. Network queries of the streaming metadata are enabled via the metadata repository, and, in response to the network queries, peer-to-peer access of the content is facilitated from one or more of the devices.

  • Patent number: 8490075
Abstract: An approach is provided for optimizing an exchange of service updates. A service update manager determines factors related to a level of activity, context, status, or combination thereof between a first device and a second device with respect to an information sharing service. The service update manager then computes a pair update rate for sharing information between the first device and second device via the information sharing service based on the determined factors, and transmits the pair update rate to the first device and the second device. If the first device and second device are members of a group created in the information sharing service, the service update manager computes respective pair update rates for each pair of members within the group, and computes a group update rate based on the respective pair updates.

  • Publication number: 20110239011
Abstract: An scheduler module is provided for acting on a request to establish a communication session between a first device and a second device, wherein the first device, the second device, or both are associated with a respective activity schedule that specifies, at least in part, a wake-up time when the respective device will be in an active state. The scheduler module also determines whether the first device, the second device, or both are in an inactive state, to determine a next wake-up time to effect establishment of the communication session.
