  • Patent number: 9813958
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided herein for enabling a D2D bearer to stay alive even in an instance in which a D2D connection is lost. In some example embodiments, a method is provided that comprises detecting a condition that indicates that a device-to-device bearer is to be terminated. The method of this embodiment may also include modifying a cellular bearer protocol data unit header, such that the cellular bearer protocol data unit header indicates that a cellular bearer service data unit is a device-to-device protocol data unit. The method of this embodiment may also include causing one or more device-to-device protocol data units to be encapsulated within one or more cellular bearer protocol data units, such that the one or more device-to-device protocol data units are transmitted via a cellular bearer.

  • Patent number: 9787609
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided for facilitating transmission of data. A method and apparatus may detect one or more items of data that were transmitted with at least one error or unsuccessfully delivered to a device. The method and apparatus may enable retransmission of the items of data in at least one transport block. The method and apparatus may enable transmission of one or more items of new data in the at least one transport block such that a size of the new data does not exceed a variable size limit of a transport block size. The variable size limit may be dependent on one or more sizes of one or more transport blocks. The method and apparatus may determine that the variable size limit comprises a size smaller than a size of the at least one transport block.

  • Publication number: 20150304896
Abstract: The application relates to a mobile terminal radio stack for D2D single channel (308) and a cellular uplink single channel (324). A D2D connection is a direct connection formed between a first mobile terminal and a second mobile terminal over the cellular radio spectrum. The D2D connection is a local communication link and is generally enabled for use over short distances. Because the D2D connection could be lost quite rapidly, handover (e.g. bearer establishment) of the D2D communications to traditional cellular communications e.g. Evolved Universal Mobile Telecommunications System Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN)) may not occur in time to synchronize the multiple mobile terminals. As a result, multiple protocol data units between the mobile terminals may be lost.

  • Publication number: 20150305065
Abstract: A new random access procedure is introduced that does not use a timing advance for the uplink timing but instead uses the downlink timing for uplink timing. This is particularly viable when the propagation delay is short, for example with local area cells having a coverage range less than some predetermined threshold. From the mobile terminal's perspective it obtains downlink timing for a cell, transmits a scheduling request SR in a contention-based uplink resource, and in response to receiving an uplink resource allocation it transmits in the allocated uplink resource using the downlink timing. The terminal can get the configuration for that contention-based uplink resource from system information. From the uplink resource the terminal and network determines a SR-RNTI, which the network uses to address the uplink resource allocation and the terminal uses to find a pre-defined search space in which to look for that uplink resource allocation.

  • Publication number: 20130250871
Abstract: Mechanisms for controlling communications conducted in multiple frequency bands so as to decrease an interference level between the communications. When an interference situation caused between an UL communication performed on at least one frequency band and a DL communication performed on another frequency band is determined, a partial denial processing is conducted so as to deactivate a dedicated part of resource blocks used for the first communication on the at least one frequency band of the first communication in the case of an interference situation being determined. The first communication is then continued in parallel to the second communication, on the basis of resources different from the dedicated part of resource blocks deactivated in the partial denial processing.

  • Publication number: 20130016703
Abstract: A network assigns to a first user equipment UE and to a second UE a same temporary identifier for use at least while the first and the second UEs are simultaneously in a connected state in a same cell. Individual control channel transmissions utilizing the temporary identifier are selectively associated to only one of the first and the second UEs according to a predetermined time domain division. In various embodiments the time domain division comprises discontinuous reception DRX periods having mutually exclusive reception time periods; or mutually exclusive radio frame or subframe groups assigned to the first and second UEs for at least downlink control channel transmissions. Such radio frame/subframe groups may be even and odd numbered, or may be given by any of various example formulas if there are two or more UEs sharing the same temporary identifier. For an LTE system such an identifier may be the C-RNTI.

  • Patent number: 6775259
Abstract: In a cellular system information is transmitted from a base station (100, 400) to a terminal (101, 500). Between the base station and the terminal there is defined a paging channel (110) in order to transmit requests for establishing downlink connections, and a broadcast control channel (108, 109) in order to transmit general information concerning the base station's cell. General information concerning the base station's cell is transmitted on the paging channel (110) when the paging channel's (110) information transmission capacity is higher than the total amount of information which has to be transmitted regarding the requests to establish downlink connections.

  • Patent number: 6108553
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining the position of a mobile station, a positioning system and a mobile station. According to the invention, a mobile station (21) receives signals from at least two base stations (22, 23, 24) and determines time differences of the clocks of the received signals. The mobile station (21) sends information about the time differences to a positioning service center (26) of the mobile communication system which calculates the position of the mobile station (21) on the basis of the time difference information and base station coordinates and clock information. With the method it is possible to measure signals the strengths of which remain below the minimum decoding level. According to the invention, it is also possible to measure bursts containing short training sequencies to improve timing measurement accuracy and measuring speed.

  • Patent number: 5838672
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for measuring the timing of a received signal in a digital time division communication system and to a mobile station implementing the method. The mobile station receives bursts transmitted by a base station and measures the timing by means of a training sequence included in a burst. In the method according to the invention, the timing is measured by means of training sequences of at least two received bursts. In this way, the timing measurement result is more accurate than what is obtained by prior art methods. To improve the resolution of the measurement result, the sampled signal is advantageously interpolated in order to increase the number of samples. In addition, the measurement is performed in two steps so that first it is measured the timing of a burst with a long training sequence to obtain a timing estimate, and then it is performed a refined timing measurement by means of at least two bursts having a short or a long training sequence.

  • Patent number: 5640485
Abstract: The present invention relates to a speech recognition method and a system for a speech-controllable telephone in which a value is computed (2) for a reference word with a speech recognizer (8) on the basis of a word uttered by a user, and a recognition resolution (6a, 6b) is made on the basis of said value. Prior to making said recognition resolution, it is found out (3) if repetition of a previous word is in question, and if so, a new value is computed (5) for the reference word on the basis of the value computed by the speech recognizer and of a value in the memory, computed earlier for the reference word, and a recognition resolution (6a, 6b) is made on the basis of said computed new value.
