  • Patent number: 4261905
Abstract: The method for preparing furfuryl alcohol comprises hydrogenation of furfural in the presence of a mixture of a copper-chromite catalyst promoted with oxides of alkali-earth metals, and ceramic material. This mixture is disposed in four beds at a ratio between the catalyst and the ceramic material of 1:2 in the first bed, 1:1 in the second bed, 2:1 in the third bed and 2.5:1 in the fourth bed downstream of the flow of the mixture of furfural and hydrogen. The hydrogenation process is conducted at an elevation of temperature from 50.degree. to 140.degree. C. under a pressure of from 60 to 65 atm, followed by the introduction of monoethanolamine or hydrazine hydrate into the resulting catalyzate.

  • Patent number: 4254245
Abstract: A method for preparing a furan-epoxy powder-like binder which comprises interaction of an epoxy diane resin with a nitrogen-containing furan monomer, such as furfuramide or 3-methyl-5-furylpyrazoline at a temperature ranging from 140.degree. to 160.degree. C. at a ratio of the nitrogen-containing furan monomer to the epoxy diane resin equal to 0.2:5 to 3.4:5 expressed in parts by weight. The process may be performed in the presence of trifurylborate at the weight ratio thereof to the epoxy diane resin equal to 0.05:5 to 0.6:5 expressed in parts by weight. The resulting product is cooled to a temperature of not more than 30.degree. C. and then disintegrated to a powder-like state. The furane epoxy binder prepared by the method according to the present invention does not get clogged for 45 days and may be stored for long periods of up to 6 months without any changes in its initial properties. Vicat deformation heat-resistance of the polymeric material produced with the use of said binder is as high as 230.

  • Patent number: 4226968
Abstract: A method of producing furan-epoxy powder-like binder comprising reacting the product of the polycondensation of epichlorohydrin with diphenylpropane (100 weight parts) with a ketone containing a furfurylidene group (33-200 weight parts) and a nitrogen-containing compound (8-100 weight parts). As examples of the ketone containing a furfurylidene group monofurfurylideneacetone, difurfurylideneacetone, difurfurylidenecyclohexanone, a mixture of monofurfurylideneacetone with difurfurylideneacetone in a ratio (weight parts from 1:1 to 1.4:1; 1,9-di-(.alpha.-furyl)nonanetetracene-1,3,6,8-one-5 or 1,5 -di-(.alpha.-furyl)-2,4-dimethylpentadiene-1, 4-one-3 may be mentioned. Triethanolamine, 3-methyl-5-furylpyrazoline, trifurylimidazoline, hexamethylenediamine, and low molecular polyamides with molecular weight of 2000-10000 or polyethylenepolyamine with molecular weight of 1000 are used as a nitrogen-containing compound. The reaction is performed at 130.degree.-200.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4192931
Abstract: A process for producing a furan-epoxy powder-like binder comprising reaction of an epoxy diane resin (100 parts by weight) with a ketone of the furan series (40 to 500 parts by weight) and a modifying agent (60 to 500 parts by weight). As the ketone of the furan series use is made of monofurfurylideneacetone, difurfurylideneacetone, difurfurylidenecyclohexanone, a mixture of monofurfurylidenacetone with difurfurylidenacetone, 1,9-di-(.alpha.-furyl)-nonanetetraene-1,3,6,8-one-5, or 1,5-di-(.alpha.-furyl)-2,4-dimethylpentadiene-1,4-one-3. As the modifying agent use is made of a phenolformaldehyde resin or anhydrides of dibasic carboxylic acids. The reaction is carried out at a temperature within the range of from 130.degree. to 180.degree. C. in the presence, when required, of trifurylborate (10 to 30 parts by weight). The resulting product is cooled to a temperature of at most 30.degree. C. and disintegrated to a powder-like condition.

  • Patent number: 4187368
Abstract: For the production of a powder-like furan resin use is made of a mixture of a ketone pertaining to the furan series, phenol-formaldehyde resin and, if desired, furfurol taken in a weight ratio of 10:3- 15:2-5 respectively. The mixture of said components is heated to a temperature within the range of from 130.degree. to 200.degree. C., whereupon the desired product is formed. The process may be conducted in the presence of a catalyst comprising a mixture of tin dichloride and hexamethylene diamine. The resulting powder-like furna resin is resistant against highly-aggressive media at a temperature of up to 120.degree. C.; it is also resistant against the effect of oxidizing agents at a temperature of up to 80.degree. C. Martens yield temperature of the powder-like furna resin of the present invention is as high as 300.degree. C. The resin yield is as high as 93%.
