Patent number: 10598366Abstract: A lighting system is provided that is configured for use with one or more hydroponic towers. The primary component of the lighting system is a light tube that includes one or more LED boards affixed to a central, actively cooled, mounting fixture. The LED boards may be affixed to one side or to multiple sides of the mounting fixture. A tethering system locates each light tube within the hydroponic farming facility, the tethering system configured to (i) allow for thermal expansion and contraction of the light tube, (ii) maintain the desired location of the light tube, (iii) simplify removal of the light tube, (iv) prevent accidental disengagement from the top mounting fixture while still allowing limited movement of the light tube, and (v) allow disengagement from the bottom mounting fixture when undue stress is applied to the light tube.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2019Date of Patent: March 24, 2020Assignee: MJNN, LLCInventors: Kevin Kai Morris, Grant Thomas Lindblom, Frances Willcox Esparza, Paul Guerra, Meaghan Fitzgerald, Juli Satoh, Michael Peter Flynn

Patent number: 9726967Abstract: Display media configured to receive projected content are described herein. In some instances, a display medium may be a non-powered object that a user may hold and move in different ways through a room or other environment. The display medium may be formed to fit into the user's hand and include elements that provide information to accurately project an image onto the display medium or to perform other actions.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2012Date of Patent: August 8, 2017Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Beverly L. Harrison, Edward Dietz Crump, William Thomas Weatherford, Juli A. Satoh, Navid Poulad, Robert A. Yuan, Jon L. Lindskog, Christopher D. Coley

Patent number: 9641796Abstract: Embodiments include a telepresence system operative to carry out a teleconference, a lighting arrangement for a telepresence system operative to carry out a teleconference, and a planar panel having a reflective front surface that includes indentations having variable depth operative such that that when the reflective surface is illuminated by a light source, light is directed towards one or more participants in a telepresence system that is operative to carry out a teleconference.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2014Date of Patent: May 2, 2017Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Glenn Robert G. Aarrestad, Juli A. Satoh, Shawn E. Bender

Patent number: 9541125Abstract: Projection and camera systems may employ a joint locking mechanism that may enable a user to reposition or move structures (arms, lenses, etc.) that are otherwise locked in position. The joint locking mechanism may include a touch-activated presence detector to sense a presence of an extremity of a user. In response to the presence detector sensing the presence, an actuator may unlock a joint or structure to enable movement of the joint or structure while the presence detector continues to sense the presence. In response to a detection of an absence of the extremity, the actuator may return to a locked state to prevent further movement of the joint or structure.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2012Date of Patent: January 10, 2017Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Juli A. Satoh, Christopher D. Coley, Navid Poulad, Colter E. Cederlof

Patent number: 9281727Abstract: A user device may include one or more features on a surface of the user device, where a user may interact with the one or more features. In response to a user action with respect to one of the features, a particular sound, frequency, or change in frequency may be output. An augmented reality functional node (ARFN) may detect the sound or frequency and identify a particular operation that corresponds to the sound or frequency. The ARFN may then cause that operation to be performed within an environment.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 2012Date of Patent: March 8, 2016Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Christopher D. Coley, Menashe Haskin, Robert A. Yuan, Juli A. Satoh, William Thomas Weatherford

Patent number: 9052579Abstract: A device includes a projection and camera system to create an augmented reality environment in which images are projected onto a scene and user movement within the scene is captured. The projection and camera system have a camera to image scattered IR light from the scene and compute time of flight values used in depth mapping of objects in the room. The system also has a projector to project the images onto the scene. The system controls the camera and projector mounted in a moveable head of a lamp with a motor mounted elsewhere in the lamp. In one implementation, the motor is mounted in the base of a table lamp.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 2012Date of Patent: June 9, 2015Assignee: Rawles LLCInventors: Navid Poulad, Colter E. Cederlof, Juli A. Satoh, Robert A. Yuan, Steve A. Quento
