  • Publication number: 20240310020
Abstract: A multi-function light module includes: a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs) chosen from mini-LEDs, micro-LEDs and LED-dies and including a first group of the plurality of LEDs mounted on a substrate, and a second group of the plurality of LEDs mounted on the substrate; a printed circuit board (PCB) with a second plurality of LEDs configured for a first function; and a lens overlying each of the multi-function light module and the PCB. An optics assembly includes a first optic component configured for the first function and second optic component configured for a second function that is different from the first function. The optics assembly is arranged to guide light output from respective LEDs of the first group of the LEDs via the first optic component and to guide light output from respective LEDs of the second group of the LEDs via the second optic component.

  • Patent number: 12025287
Abstract: A multi-function lighting assembly provides multiple vehicle lighting functions (e.g., rear vehicle tail light and fog light) using a single printed circuit board substrate having mini or micro chip scale package LEDs or their unpackaged LED dies. LEDs for respective ones of the different lighting functions are separately controlled. LEDs controlled for respective functions can be interspersed, or disposed in different areas of LEDs having the same lighting function. A layer of optic components is disposed relative to the outputs of the LEDs and has different optic components for the LEDs of the respective lighting functions (e.g., collimator optics over LEDs controlled to provide a bright concentrated light output, and a diffuser over the LEDs controlled to provide a diffused light output). The multi-function lighting assembly can be employed as a universal board for seamless and convenient integration into various rear lamps having specific inner tail lenses.

  • Publication number: 20240027583
Abstract: A weather resistant autonomous driving sensor unit for an autonomous vehicle driving system. The sensor unit further includes a cover having an inside surface facing the one or more light detection and ranging sensors, and an external surface facing an external environment of a vehicle. The cover is formed of molded polycarbonate and also forms a vehicle component selected from the group consisting of a vehicle grille, bumper and front end module. A hydrophilic coating applied to the external surface of the coating. The hydrophilic coating can be made of several different compounds that are applied to the external surface using spraying, dipping or vapor deposition. The hydrophilic coating selected must provide a droplet thickness to diameter ratio of less than 0.3 when the water contact angle on the external surface of the cover is less than 40 degrees or between about 25 degrees to about 40 degrees.

  • Publication number: 20230166282
Abstract: A rain simulation system that replicates realistic raindrop characteristics for controlled testing is invented. The rain simulation system can be used as a stand-alone system with wind using a blower fan or in a wind tunnel, and without wind to create wind-driven and vertically falling rain droplets, respectively. In addition, methods to simulate rainfall for stationary and moving objects such as a road passenger vehicle are proposed. The rain simulation system is fully adjustable for a range of droplet size, impact velocity, rain intensity, rain coverage via the use of dripping nozzle devices and positioning of system components. The rain simulation system dispenses distinct droplets or continuous streams that can be broken down into droplets by wind. A rain nozzle device is coupled with a rain reservoir, and multiple nozzles are used to create a rain matrix, the full matrix is integrated with a rain rack and rainwater flow control strategy.

  • Publication number: 20230092860
Abstract: A microphone enclosure for a vehicle exterior component includes a housing, and a microphone disposed within the housing. The housing also includes a first outer portion defining a sound channel for conveying sound to the microphone. The microphone enclosure includes a membrane of elastomeric material, such as silicone, disposed over the sound channel and configured to prevent contaminants, such as moisture and dust, from entering the sound channel. The sound channel has at least one dimension configured to provide a specific frequency response or acoustic sensitivity. A protective mesh may be disposed below the first membrane and configured to limit deflection of the first membrane. The housing includes an outer surface defining an aperture and a passageway providing auditory communication between the aperture and the microphone. In some embodiments, the passageway is configured as a tortuous path impeding straight-line access from the aperture to the membrane.
