Abstract: The present invention relates to methods for the diagnosis and treatment of pain or painful disorders. Specifically, the present invention identifies the differential expression of 9949, 14230, 760, 62553, 12216, 17719, 41897, 47174, 33408, 10002, 16209, 314, 636, 27410, 33260, 619, 15985, 69112, 2158, 224, 615, 44373, 95431, 22245, 2387, 16658, 55054, 16314, 1613, 1675, 9569 and 13424 genes in tissues relating to pain sensation, relative to their expression in normal, or non-painful disease states, and/or in response to manipulations relevant to pain. The present invention describes methods for the diagnostic evaluation and prognosis of various pain disorders, and for the identification of subjects exhibiting a predisposition to such conditions. The invention also provides methods for identifying a compound capable of modulating pain or painful disorders. The present invention also provides methods for the identification and therapeutic use of compounds as treatments of pain and painful disorders.
