Patent number: 9795483Abstract: An implant is disclosed. The implant includes a reinforcement component attached to a sheet component. The sheet component is formed as a porous and fibrous material. The implant is adapted to be implanted on an area of a penis having Peyronie's plaques excised. The implant will elongate during erection of the penis and contract when the penis returns to a flaccid state. The reinforcement component includes a longitudinal rod and a transverse connector, with the longitudinal rod providing column strength to the implant and the sheet component providing support for penile tissue.Type: GrantFiled: July 4, 2016Date of Patent: October 24, 2017Assignee: Coloplast A/SInventors: Sarah J. Deitch, Julie M. Kerkvliet

Patent number: 9408696Abstract: A method of treating Peyronie's disease through implantation of a supporting structure in a penis suffering from a Peyronie's plaques affected area includes providing an incision in the penis and accessing the Peyronie's plaques affected area. The method includes excising plaque out of the Peyronie's plaque affected area and exposing exposed tissue of the penis, and placing an implant on the exposed tissue of the penis. The implant has a sheet component attached to a reinforcing component. The method includes positioning the implant allowing for tissue ingrowth into the sheet component and providing column strength to the exposed tissue of the penis with the reinforcing component of the implant, and securing the implant subcutaneously to the penis prior to closing the incision.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2013Date of Patent: August 9, 2016Assignee: Coloplast A/SInventors: Sarah J Deitch, Julie M Kerkvliet

Publication number: 20150141743Abstract: A method of treating urinary incontinence in a person includes fabricating a device having a rod connected between a proximal portion that is insertable into a urinary bladder and a distal portion that is circular in lateral cross-section, and inserting the proximal portion into the urinary bladder and the rod in a urethra extending away from the urinary bladder. The method includes instructing the person to pass urine by pushing the distal portion in a proximal direction inward, thus lifting the proximal portion out of engagement with an exit region of the urinary bladder, and allowing the flow of urine to exit the urinary bladder through the urethra.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 23, 2015Publication date: May 21, 2015Inventors: Sarah J. Deitch, Janell Colley, Julie M. Kerkvliet, Gregg Ledin

Publication number: 20150094528Abstract: A Peyronie's treatment implant includes a skeletal framework having reinforcing components. Also included are one or more sheath components that are attached to the reinforcing components to provide support for penile tissue. The skeletal framework of the implant allows for elongation of the implant during erection of the penis and for contraction of the implant when the penis is returning to its flaccid state. Also included is at least one attachment mechanism for securing the implant to the penis, the attachment mechanism having a needle for penetrating through the targeted penile tissue and at least one anchor for attachment to the penile tissue.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 29, 2013Publication date: April 2, 2015Applicant: Coloplast A/SInventors: Sarah J. Deitch, Julie M. Kerkvliet

Patent number: 8465413Abstract: A method of treating Peyronie's disease manifested in an erect penis having a first penis side with an unaffected length and a second penis side with an affected length that is shorter than the unaffected length includes attaching an elastic device subcutaneously to the first penis side; and providing the elastic device with a stretch stop that limits elongation of the first penis side to an erection distance that is approximately equal to the affected length of the erect penis.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 2010Date of Patent: June 18, 2013Assignee: Coloplast A/SInventors: Sarah J. Deitch, Janell Colley, Julie M. Kerkvliet, Gregg Ledin

Publication number: 20130079589Abstract: An incontinence treatment device has a solid rod connected between a proximal portion and a distal portion. The proximal portion is insertable into a urinary bladder. The solid rod is configured for placement in the urethra. The solid rod has a length that adapts the distal portion to be positioned outside and distal to the urethra with the proximal portion positioned in the urinary bladder. The proximal portion has a lateral dimension that is at least a factor of 3 greater than a lateral dimension of the solid rod and is so configured to block a neck of the urinary bladder and impede flow of urine out of the urinary bladder. A force applied to the distal portion displaces the proximal portion away from the neck of the urinary bladder to allow urine to exit the urinary bladder.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 16, 2012Publication date: March 28, 2013Applicant: COLOPLAST A/SInventors: Sarah J. Deitch, Janell Colley, Julie M. Kerkvliet, Gregg Ledin

Patent number: 8206282Abstract: A Peyronie's treatment device is described that is configured to treat an erect penis having curvature characterized by a first penis side with an unaffected length and a second penis side with an affected length that is shorter than the unaffected length. The device includes a band connected between a proximal support that is attachable to a base of a penis and a distal support that is attachable adjacent a corona of the penis. The band has an elastic material and a second material that is attached to the elastic material. The second material is provided to stop elongation of the elastic material at a length approximately equal to the affected length of the erect penis.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2011Date of Patent: June 26, 2012Assignee: Coloplast A/SInventors: Sarah J. Deitch, Janell Colley, Julie M. Kerkvliet, Gregg Ledin
