Abstract: A subscriber unit, for a cellular communication system, is arranged to store data representing a message to be transmitted together with data representing specified conditions associated with the transmission of the message. The subscriber unit responds to the specified conditions being met by transmitting the message. The specified conditions may be dictated by the network or by the user of the subscriber unit or by a combination of the two, and include time, date, location, and network loading.

Abstract: A method and system of transferring messages from a message source to a mobile station in a cellular system comprises assigning to each message a priority characteristic before the message is transmitted to mobile station. The message is then transmitted together with the assigned priority characteristic, depending on the priority characteristic. The priority characteristic is examined at the mobile station and the message is processed at the mobile station depending on the priority characteristic.

Abstract: A circuit for a telephone, having a data store for storing user data including telephone numbers and associated data, and sorting means (46) for sorting the user data for display. The sorting means sorts the user data according to frequency of use (e.g. frequency of calls received and frequency of connections requested) of the telephone numbers.

Abstract: There is provided a phase locked loop, PLL, that sets gain automatically. The PLL comprises a frequency discriminator for providing a first signal that represents the difference between a first frequency and a second frequency. The PLL also comprises a comparator coupled to the frequency discriminator for receiving the first signal and providing a second signal based on information from the first signal. The second signal is representative of a gain setting for the phase locked loop to set.

Abstract: A plural-mode receiver 10 is able to receive signals from a first communication system (e.g. WCDMA) or signals from a second, different communication system e.g. GSM). The receiver 10 comprises a first receiver chain 13, 15,17,19 for receiving signals of the first communication system and a second receiver chain 12, 14, 16, 18 for receiving signals of the second communication system. A reference oscillator 24 is arranged to generate a reference signal for the first receiver chain and the second receiver chain. The receiver also comprises a controller 22 for controlling the reference oscillator 24 so that the oscillator 24 oscillates at frequencies related to signals of the first communication system or signals of the second communication system.
