Patent number: 11270546Abstract: This disclosure describes, in part, systems for tracking the removal of shopping bags or other items from a dispenser. Folded shopping bags are stacked in a holder so that a front shopping bag can be removed by pulling it along an axis that is parallel to the length and/or width dimension of the shopping bag. A motion sensor is positioned to sense movement of the front shopping bag as it is removed. Control logic monitors and/or analyzes data or other signals from the motion sensor and determines whether movement of at least a threshold distance has occurred. If movement of at least the threshold distance has occurred, the control logic concludes that a shopping bag has been removed and generates a corresponding event notice. Other system components may respond to the event notice by applying a charge for the removed shopping bag or by performing other actions.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2019Date of Patent: March 8, 2022Inventors: Mike Mosman, Andrew Pierce, Jacob Drewniak, Robert Riggs, Dan Beltzer, Greg Justice, Julie Yu

Patent number: 9232077Abstract: A system, method, and computer program that automatically creates a subscription for applications and services provided to wireless devices from other computer devices on a wireless network, where the subscription requires periodic payment by the wireless device subscriber for continued access to the application or service. The system monitors wireless device end-user interaction with other computer devices, such as application download servers, across the wireless network and when the end-user obtains an application or service from the computer device, the system automatically records the subscription and can either bill the wireless device subscriber for the subscription(s) or transmit the bill to the carrier or other entity to bill the subscriber.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2003Date of Patent: January 5, 2016Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Julie Yu, Gerald Horel, Jaiteerth Patwari, Michelle Klein, Mitchell Oliver

Patent number: 9203923Abstract: Systems and methods consistent with the present invention provide an interface to facilitate the communication between systems. A source system translates data into an XML format and transmits the data to a synchronizer interface tool. The synchronizer tool stores the data in a persistent intermediate storage, such as a queue, allowing the source system to go offline or perform other tasks while the data is transmitted to the target system. The synchronizer tool initiates the transmission of the data to the target system. If the target system indicates that it received the data, then the synchronizer tool sends an acknowledgement to the source system indicating the data was received. If the target system does not receive the transmission, the synchronizer tool maintains the data in the persistent intermediate storage and reinitiates transmission of the data to the target system.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 2002Date of Patent: December 1, 2015Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Gerald Horel, Julie Yu, Robert J. Truitt

Publication number: 20120309345Abstract: A system, method, and computer program for tracking billable events occurring on wireless devices on a wireless network and billing the appropriate parties. The billable events occur from the end-users of the wireless devices selectively communicating with other computer devices across the wireless network and downloading and executing software applications thereupon. The billable event data is ultimately gathered at a server on the wireless network from which billing for the wireless device billable events can be generated.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 26, 2012Publication date: December 6, 2012Inventors: Susan L. Patent number: 7113766Abstract: Systems and methods consistent with the present invention provide a transaction processing during which a transaction billing event is created. Metadata associated with an application is stored in a transaction manager database. When a wireless device downloads an application, raw transaction information is sent to and stored in the database. The raw transaction data may include a subset of the metadata and additional information included by other devices and/or systems. Billing events are created by correlating the metadata and the raw transaction data. In addition, subscription billing events, such as those having reoccurring charges, are calculated by evaluating those transactions having a subscription transaction type and their associated metadata stored in the database.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 2002Date of Patent: September 26, 2006Assignee: Qualcomm Inc.Inventors: Gerald Horel, Julie Yu, Phil Nguyen, Jaiteerth Patwari

Publication number: 20040043753Abstract: A system, method, and computer program for billing wireless device subscribers for their interaction with applications and services resident on third party computer devices that are accessible through a wireless network. The wireless devices, such as cellular telecommunication devices, communicate with other computer devices across a wireless network and an end-user thereof, who is not necessarily the subscriber for the wireless service, can selectively download and execute software applications. Third party computer devices, such as application download servers, are accessible on the wireless network and selectively provide applications and services to the wireless devices, and the interaction of the wireless devices with the third party computer devices causes billable events to occur, and a billing server gathers the billable event data, generates billing for the wireless device subscribers, and effects payment of the third parties for billable events at the computer devices of that third party.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 30, 2002Publication date: March 4, 2004Inventors: Susan L.
