  • Publication number: 20220081367
Abstract: Thermoset ceramic compositions and a method of preparation of such compositions. The compositions are advanced organic/inorganic hybrid composite polymer ceramic alloys. The material combines strength, hardness and high temperature performance of technical ceramics with the strength, ductility, thermal shock resistance, density, and easy processing of the polymer. Consisting of a branched backbone of silicon, and alumina, with highly coordinated Si—O—Si or Al—O—Al bonds, the material undergoes sintering at 7 to 300 centigrade for 2 to 94 hours from water at a pH between 0 to 14, humidity of 0 to 100%, with or without vaporous solvents.

  • Publication number: 20210246315
Abstract: An inorganic polymer coating. Low cost thermal barrier coatings thermal barrier coating and a process that starts with an aqueous suspension which may be sprayed, dipped, rolled or painted on a surface and cured. The cured thermal barrier coating has high thermal performance, low emissivity, high adhesion to multiple substrates, thermal cycle and thermal shock stability, high hardness, high elasticity and toughness.

  • Publication number: 20180371119
Abstract: A process for providing inorganic polymer ceramic-like materials. The process comprises providing a first material which comprises at least one non-oxide ceramic powder, and, at least one metal oxide, and providing a second material which comprises a caustic slurry composed of alkaline water and a solvent, and, combining the materials with stirring. There is also provided a composition of matter provided by the above-mentioned process which is a chemically bonded ceramic polymer comprising metal oxide and non-oxide ceramic bonds.

  • Patent number: 7700152
Abstract: Nano- and micron sized metal oxide and mixed metal oxide particles are injected into a high temperature region wherein the temperature is between about 400° C. and less than 2000° C., and collected as particles or as coatings wherein a particulate nature is substantially maintained. The particles are altered in at least one of phase, morphology, composition, and particle size distribution, and may achieve further changes in these characteristics by coinjection of metal oxide precursor in liquid form.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 25, 2005
Date of Patent: April 20, 2010
Assignee: The Regents of the University of Michigan
Inventors: Richard M. Laine, Julien Marchal, José Azurdia, Roy Rennesund
  • Patent number: 7220398
Abstract: Liquid feed flame spray pyrolysis of solutions of a metal oxide precursor which is an alkoxide or C1-6 carboxylate and at least one second metal oxide precursor and/or second metal compound dissolved in oxygenated solvent by combustion with oxygen lead to the formation of sub-micron mixed-metal oxide powders not accessible by other processes or by the pyrolysis of metal chlorides or nitrates. The powders have numerous uses in advanced materials applications including particulate solid state lasers, advanced ceramic materials, and as catalysts in organic synthesis and automobile exhaust systems.
