Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to a carton for packaging one or more articles. The carton comprises a side wall and a top portion formed in part by a top wall panel and an upper end closure panel hinged to the top wall panel along a first end edge thereof. A carrying handle is defined in the top portion. A gusset panel is hinged to the upper end closure panel along a first side edge. An anchor panel is hinged to the gusset panel and to the side wall. The anchor panel is folded into a face to face relationship with the side panel so as to secure the upper end closure panel in a closed condition. A handle-reinforcing structure is disposed at least in part about the carrying handle. The handle-reinforcing structure is coupled to the anchor panel by two or more connecting panels.

The retaining feature further includes a tab portion (56) protruding into the aperture. The tab portion is positioned such that the fold line between the angularly related panels extends across the tab portion and terminates at an apex of the tab portion.

The divisible carton includes an aperture or access opening in a wall to which the keel is hingedly connected such that the access opening facilitates erecting or positioning the keel. Further, the modules of the divisible carton are detachably connected to one another such that the access opening can also be used as a grip hand hold for pulling the modules apart. The keel is a double ply structure formed from face contacting panels that are detachably connected to one another along a frangible line or by delaminating or otherwise separable detachable sections. The keel is hingedly connected to an inner wall of the carton, extends inwardly into the carton interior, and may be aligned with a frangible line in an optional outer panel.
