  • Publication number: 20190176454
Abstract: The invention provides a method for pre-curing an adhesive layer bonding a first component to a second component. The adhesive layer is heated by treating an adhesive layer component as heating the first component with a pair of electrodes that are in electrical contact with a surface of the first component, the pair of electrodes applying a predetermined electrical current (I1, I2) to the first component. The invention further provides an arrangement for pre-curing a layer of adhesive.

  • Publication number: 20180104865
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a fiber-reinforced thermoset composite includes pulling a first portion of a continuous material comprised of reinforcement fibers which are impregnated with a heat curable thermosetting resin through a die. The first portion in the die is subjected to a field of electromagnetic microwaves to heat the first portion to at least a curing temperature of the thermosetting resin. A second portion of the continuous material is pulled through the die. The field of electromagnetic microwaves is reduced in the die such that the second portion is not heated to the curing temperature.

  • Patent number: 9616934
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a hybrid side sill for an automobile. The hybrid side sill may includes a pultruded profile part including a continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic polymer, which has a heat deflection temperature of at least 200 °C., and a terminal part including steel, which is attached to an end portion of the pultruded profile part. The present disclosure further provides an automobile body including such a hybrid side sill and also a method of manufacturing a hybrid side sill for an automobile. The manufacturing method includes a step for forming a pultruded profile part including a continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic polymer, which has a heat deflection temperature of at least 200 °C., and a step for attaching a terminal part made of steel to an end portion of the pultruded profile part.

  • Patent number: 9610909
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a crash-resistant structural part for an automobile, the crash-resistant structural part including a beam element for receiving an impact force during a crash of the automobile is provided. The method comprises a step of arranging at least one layer of fibers having a length of 100 mm or more, and a step of mixing components required to form a thermoplastic polymer resin, the components including a reactive monomer, thereby forming a liquid precursor mixture of the thermoplastic polymer resin. At least one layer of fibers is impregnated with the liquid precursor mixture, and the beam element is formed by an in-situ polymerization reaction of the liquid precursor mixture having impregnated the at least one layer of fibers.
