    Abstract: A sensing device for monitoring operational conditions of an external unit associated with a data storage system includes a processor, an electromagnetic sensing coil associable to, such as, in proximity to and/or couplable to a power line to the external unit and a communication interface configured to communicative with the data storage system. The processor of the sensing device may be configured to receive a signal from the electromagnetic sensing coil that is indicative of operational conditions of the external unit, convert the received signal to a SCSI data command; and transmit the converted SCSI data command to a controller of the data storage system. The SCSI command may comply with the Automation/Drive Interface (ADI) standard.
