  • Patent number: 8533622
Abstract: In accordance with one or more aspects, different pages of a digital book are displayed in each of two display areas of a device using a book display model. In response to a request to semantically zoom out, the digital book is displayed in a broader context, the broader context using a context display model rather than the book display model. In response to additional requests to semantically zoom out, the digital book is displayed in increasingly broader contexts. Additionally, in response to requests to semantically zoom in, the digital book is displayed in increasingly narrower contexts until the digital book is displayed in the book display model rather than the context display model.

  • Patent number: 8446377
Abstract: A touch sensitive computing system is provided, including a first touch sensitive display and a second touch sensitive display. The displays are operatively coupled with a processing subsystem, and with a memory subsystem which stores a plurality of content pages. User interface instructions are stored in the memory subsystem and are executable by the processing subsystem to provide user interactivity with the content pages through the first touch sensitive display and the second touch sensitive display. The interface instructions are further configured to control the displays so that they operate as discretely organized interface units for the content pages.

  • Patent number: 8275880
Abstract: A media content programming, delivery, and consumption model is provided by which consumers can receive programming that is personalized to their tastes and interests and discover new media content that they will likely enjoy, without having to put in a lot of effort or needing to be technically adept. The received media content programming can then be played on a PC or portable media player. Consumers can access the media content programming from a cloud-based service with the same ease as tuning to a radio station, and then may simply enjoy the programming without needing to take any additional steps. However, unlike traditional linear programming, the programming here is curated so that the delivered content is highly relevant to the consumer. Navigation within a programmed sequence is enabled by skipping ahead or going back in a playlist, and consumers can learn more about particular content by interacting with rich metadata.

  • Patent number: 7909238
Abstract: The claimed subject matter provides a system and/or a method that facilitates identifying relationships between two or more trade cards. A schema component can implement a portion of user-assisted schema to create a trade card that represents a distillation of a document with document-specific data. A relationship component can identify at least one of a hard link or a soft link associated with the trade card in connection with at least one of a network or one or more trade cards, wherein the hard link is a source that derived the trade card and the soft link is directed toward a disparate trade card with a portion of substantially similar document-specific data.

  • Patent number: 7865545
Abstract: Collaboration space object model provides for a Place consisting of rooms. A room is made up of pages. Folders are used to organize pages. Members belong to rooms, and are those users authorized to access them. Place type controls the creation of a place, including how many rooms it has, for example. Room type controls the appearance and content of rooms. A form manages the display of data notes. A form can contain fields for containing data and employ scripts to process and compute data. A page is the basic vehicle for content. Content is created using an or importing content from an external source. A member is also a data note, and each place contains its own member directory. A place is created and managed from a client browser in on-line mode and in offline mode with respect to a replicated copy of the space. Room security is independently managed, and security and aesthetics characteristics of subrooms selectively inherited.

  • Publication number: 20100325559
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed herein for allowing sharing of notes and ideas between electronic devices. The presence of a number of electronic devices is determined. A determination is made that the electronic devices are to be part of a shared workspace. A shared workspace is generated for the electronic devices. The shared workspace is displayed on a display screen of at least one of the electronic devices. The shared workspace that is displayed may be based on the capabilities of the electronic device. The shared workspace that is displayed may reflect the location of the electronic devices.

  • Publication number: 20100317332
Abstract: A mobile device such as a cell phone is used to remotely control an electronic appliance such as a television or personal computer. In a setup phase, the mobile device captures an image of the electronic appliance and identifies and stores scale-invariant features of the image. A user interface configuration such as a virtual keypad configuration, and a communication protocol, can be associated with the stored data. Subsequently, in an implementation phase, another image of the electronic appliance is captured and compared to the stored features in a library to identify a match. In response, the associated user interface configuration and communication protocol are implemented to control the electronic appliance. In a polling and reply process, the mobile device captures a picture of a display of the electronic device and compares it to image data which is transmitted by the electronic appliance.

  • Publication number: 20090326970
Abstract: A reputation system used in a social networking service provides for recognition for its members in the form of badges that can be displayed on the members' profile pages as a way of indicating a particular status. In various illustrative examples, a “tastemaker” badge may be awarded to a member who plays or recommends to other members (through various recommendation channels such as messages, shared playlists, etc.) particular pieces of media content such as songs or videos in advance of that content becoming popular with the larger community of members in the social network. The tastemaker badge can then be placed on the member's profile page as a symbol of recognition or achievement that can help to increase that member's reputation in the social network.

  • Publication number: 20090327907
Abstract: Profiles that are character-based and which reflect various brand assets are supported in a social networking service by an arrangement that enables members to interact with the branded character-based profiles in the same way as profiles of any real members of the social network. Branded characters may thus be befriended and their profiles shared with other users, rated, and discussed.

  • Publication number: 20090327437
Abstract: Real time media-based social network notifications are utilized to provide updates of events that occur in a social network in real time. By providing a data feed of events which are monitored in the social network to a real time media system such as a presence-based messaging network, users can be kept up to date with events as they occur in the social network with alerts or instant messages.

  • Publication number: 20090327969
Abstract: A GUI adapted for use with portable electronic devices such as media players is provided in which interactive objects are arranged in a virtual three-dimensional space (i.e., one represented on a two-dimensional display screen). The user manipulates controls on the player to maneuver through the 3-D space by zooming and steering to objects of interest which can represent various types of content, information or interactive experiences. The 3-D space mimics real space in that close objects appear larger to user while distant objects appear smaller. The close objects will typically represent higher level content, information, or interactive experiences while the distant objects represent more detailed content, information, or experiences. This GUI navigation feature, referred to as a semantic zoom, makes it easy for the user to maintain a clear understanding of his location within the 3-D space at all times.

  • Publication number: 20090172570
Abstract: The claimed subject matter provides a system and/or a method that facilitates interacting with a trade card that includes pyramidal volumes of data. A trade card with data can represent a computer displayable multiscale image with at least two substantially parallel planes of view in which a first plane and a second plane are alternatively displayable based upon a level of zoom and which are related by a pyramidal volume, wherein the image includes a pixel at a vertex of the pyramidal volume. An environment can host the trade card to enable access to a portion of the displayable multiscale image.

  • Publication number: 20090132326
Abstract: The claimed subject matter relates to an architecture that can utilize special metadata to facilitate an improved advertising model in connection with media content delivery. The architecture can monitor a media player device and can launch a metadata interface on the media player device upon detection that a pause feature has been activated. Accordingly, while the media player device is paused (and therefore not presenting the media in a normal fashion), a user can interact with the metadata interface. The metadata interface can provide, e.g., advertisements or additional information related to elements or objects that exist in the media. In addition, the metadata interface can launch suitable applications in accordance with the special metadata. Additionally, the architecture can embed metadata in the media, which can be done in accordance with an advertiser bidding model.
