  • Patent number: 6063855
Abstract: A process for preparing a pigmented vinylidene fluoride polymer based powder coating composition that comprises dispersing at least one pigment In an aqueous dispersion or latex of a fluorine-free polymer that is compatible with the vinylidene fluoride polymer and, if needed, conventional paint additives, which may include a polyoxyalkylene glycol block polymer. Subsequently the aqueous pigment dispersion is blended with said vinylidene fluoride polymer powder, milled, dried, and classified to obtain the specified particle size.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 2, 1998
Date of Patent: May 16, 2000
Inventors: Roger L. Pecsok, Julius E. Dohany
  • Patent number: 4360652
Abstract: Vinylidene fluoride polymers of high quality are prepared consistently by an emulsion polymerization process in which the monomer, chain transfer agent (isopropyl alcohol), and an aqueous emulsion of the initiator (diisopropylperoxydicarbonate) containing a fluoro surfactant of a limited class are fed incremently to an aqueous reaction medium containing a fluoro surfactant.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 31, 1981
Date of Patent: November 23, 1982
    Assignee: Pennwalt Corporation
    Inventor: Julius E. Dohany
  • Patent number: 4179542
Abstract: A primer coating containing, as the resin binder, a thermoplastic halogenated (at least partly fluorinated) ethylene polymer and a curable epoxy resin, and, as a filler pigment, finely-divided mica and metallic pigment powder, is disclosed herein. The primer coating gives fluoropolymer top coatings which have been simultaneously cured therewith unexpectedly high resistance to blistering and delamination when exposed to extreme conditions such as live steam under high pressure.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 13, 1978
Date of Patent: December 18, 1979
    Assignee: Pennwalt Corporation
Inventors: Alkis Christofas, Julius E. Dohany
  • Patent number: 4141873
Abstract: Aqueous dispersions of vinylidene fluoride polymer containing admixed therewith dispersed acrylate polymer are useful for forming coatings on various substrates which are free of organic solvent pollution effects and which may be air-dried at ambient temperature.
