  • Patent number: 11921215
Abstract: A system and method for optical assessment of a heliostat includes obtaining a point cloud data representing an image of the heliostat; isolating the data; filtering and fitting the filtered heliostat data to a bounding box; translating the heliostat data to a plane to aid in segmentation; segmenting a plurality of facets of the heliostat fitting each of the segmented facets to a respective plane; generating normal vectors characterizing each of the plurality of facets; and calculating a canting angle associated with each respective facet of the plurality of facets. A heliostat with mirrored facets and a scanner are provided. The scanner captures point cloud data representing the heliostat, which is segmented for each facet. Normal vectors characterize the facets and a canting angle is calculated for the respective facet.

  • Patent number: 11914374
Abstract: A system or method for an imaging system is provided for inspecting a heliostat. The imaging system includes a platform and a camera mounted on the platform and a heliostat having a plurality of mirrored facets. The camera is positioned to acquire a first image that serves as a reference image and a second image that is a reflected image from at least one facet. The camera stores image data associated with the first image and the second image, and wirelessly transmits the stored image data to a computing apparatus. The computing apparatus compares the first image with the second image and determines a performance parameter associated with the heliostat.

  • Patent number: 11841273
Abstract: A non-tracking solar sensor device and systems. The non-tracking solar sensor system includes a transparent hemispherical dome enclosure for receiving light. A diffuser is disposed with the enclosure for diffusing the light. A photodiode sensor array senses at least one discrete wavelength of the diffused light. A data acquisition module is configured to receive a sensor signal from the sensor array, the signal indicative of light quality at least one discrete wave band for processing via a processor module.

  • Publication number: 20230091829
Abstract: Various embodiments may include collecting, by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), a measuring image of an assessed heliostat in a heliostat field. The measuring image of the assessed heliostat includes an assessed facet forming a reflective surface of the assessed heliostat. At least a portion of a reference heliostat is visible in a reflection on the assessed facet. Also, a surface normal variance between a calculated surface normal of the assessed heliostat and a presumed surface normal of the assessed heliostat may be collected. The calculated surface normal is determined from a point on the assessed facet that corresponds to one or more features of the reference heliostat identifiable in the reflection. The presumed surface normal of the assessed heliostat may be updated based on the determined surface normal variance.

  • Patent number: 10760972
Abstract: A photodiode sensor device and systems. The photodiode sensor device includes a housing portion. The housing portion includes a cylindrical enclosure. A window is disposed at a first end of the housing portion. A filter wheel is within the housing portion. A motor positioned within the housing is adjacent the filter wheel opposite the window. The motor is attached to the filter wheel. A photodiode sensor within the housing portion intermediate the first photodiode sensor and the window. The first photodiode sensor receives filtered light incident on the window and transmit a signal associated with sensed parameters of the filtered light. Also, a hemispherical dome for diffusing the light to a collimating lens has a grating, a focusing lens, and a linear detector array. An exit port transmits light to the collimating lens. The sensor array is opposite the grating for sensing the diffused light.
