  • Publication number: 20050270012
Abstract: An apparatus and method for determining the output current in a bridge-connected switched transistor output circuit including high-side and low-side transistor switches, typically MOSFETS. The voltage at a common node between the high and low side switches is sensed, and offset in a first circuit by a fixed amount so that the voltage is positive for all positive or negative output currents of interest. The output current is actually determined in a second circuit which receives the offset voltage signal only predetermined times in relation to the on-time of the low side switch. The first circuit includes a current reference source/level shifter and a current mirror circuit formed of a plurality of transistors in a particular circuit configuration. The second circuit is coupled to an output of the first circuit by a gated NMOS transistor at the desired times to provide the current measurement signal.

  • Publication number: 20050127991
Abstract: A Class D audio amplifier including a gain stabilization feedback loop in which volume control is achieved by varying the bus voltage. Changes in the bus voltage are compensated for by complementary changes in the gain of a compensation element in feedback loop so the signal level at the output of the Class D stage can be adjusted independent of the feedback. A digital attenuator can be employed ahead of the amplifier to shift the effective gain of the amplifier output to provide additional volume control range.

  • Patent number: 6775157
Abstract: An active EMI filter senses current in a ground line or a power transmission line as a voltage cross a capacitor coupled to the line. The EMI filter senses common mode voltage and determines a difference between the common mode voltage and noise to provide an output to drive the difference to zero. The resulting active closed loop EMI filter produces good EMI dampening with greatly increased performance over a current transformer type EMI filter. A voltage regulator for the error amplifier improves noise reduction while increasing filter efficiency. The active EMI filter operates in a wide linear range that is greater than that of an equivalent current transformer circuit, while providing low cost and reliability.

  • Patent number: 6744310
Abstract: A power amplifying device promptly detects an abnormal condition of a load and permits protection of an output without causing power loss. A test signal having a predetermined frequency and signal level is supplied to an amplifier, and the output level is measured. The measured level is compared with the output level that is projected when the test signal is supplied with an appropriate load connected to the amplifier so as to detect a load condition. If a determination result indicates that the load is short-circuited or released, then the operation of the amplifier is promptly interrupted.
