  • Patent number: 7426779
Abstract: A wire member adapted to be used in a detection coil of an NMR spectrometer's probe. The wire member has a sleeve made of a copper tube having a high electrical conductivity, strands made of platinum, and a thin film of gold or rhodium formed on the surface of the sleeve by plating. The strands are mounted inside the sleeve and have a cross section to cancel the magnetic susceptibility due to the sleeve. The thin film cancels the total magnetic susceptibility of the sleeve and strands.

  • Patent number: 5661401
Abstract: An apparatus for generating a corrective magnetic field in a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer. The apparatus has saddle-type, spirally wound coils whose number is in excess of the number of controlled magnetic field components. Each coil is made to produce plural magnetic field components. The coils of a simple shape are combined to correct axial magnetic field components and rotation direction magnetic field components. Electrical currents supplied to the coils are controlled so as to minimize the total amount of heat generated by all the coils. The center of each coil lies on the z-axis. The coils are stacked on top of each other along the z-axis and arranged symmetrically with respect to the z-axis. One power supply is connected to each one coil. Since the number of the coils is greater than the number of controlled magnetic field components, other arbitrary conditions are added, as well as the controlled magnetic field-components, in determining the currents.

  • Patent number: 4737715
Abstract: In a coil system for an NMR spectrometer probe, a coil is wound around a cylindrical volume for containing the sample. The coil is used for producing an RF magnetic field in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the cylindrical volume. Leads from the coil connect it to an external circuit for executing the coil. Two leads are arranged to overlap each other adjacent the cylindrical volume with a dielectric substance sandwiched therebetween. The disclosed coil structure lowers inductance, raises Q value and enables higher tuning frequencies, enhances signal to noise ratios and sensitivity.

  • Patent number: 4628263
Abstract: A nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer includes a device for sensing the angular position of the sample tube and a device for adding up the free induction decay signals. The RF pulses are applied to the sample according to the output signal from the sensing device when a certain location of the sample tube is at a first specific position and also when the certain location is at a second position diametrically opposite to the first position. The two free induction decay signals obtained in this way are added up by the adding device to prevent occurrence of peaks, known as spinning sidebands, at positions shifted from the peaks of an NMR spectrum by integral multiples of the rotational frequency of the sample when the axis of rotation of the sample tube does not coincide with the central line of the sample.
