  • Patent number: 12117537
Abstract: Satellites in a non-terrestrial network may provide positioning reference signals (PRS) to user equipment (UE), with which the UE may determine its position using propagation delay difference measurements, such as Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) measurement. Due to the large distances between satellites and the UE, the propagation delay differences in the PRS received from satellites may exceed half a radio frame, resulting in a frame level timing ambiguity in the differential measurements. The satellites transmit secondary PRS, along with primary PRS, that include timing information to resolve frame level timing ambiguity of the primary PRS. The positioning occasions in the secondary PRS, for example, may be aligned with corresponding positioning occasions primary PRS within each radio frame, and are transmitted with a periodicity that is an integer multiple (greater than 1) of that of the primary PRS to resolve the frame level timing ambiguity of the primary PRS.

  • Publication number: 20240340980
Abstract: A method for wireless communication at a network entity and related apparatus are provided. In the method, the network entity receives, from a first user equipment (UE), a communication signal for an end-to-end (E2E) communication with a second UE. The communication signal includes identification data for identifying the second UE for the E2E communication. The network entity further routes the communication signal through the network entity, where the communication signal bypasses ground-based feeder links, and transmits, to the second UE, the communication signal to enable the E2E communication between the first UE and the second UE.

  • Patent number: 12081316
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that support techniques for intra-satellite handover. The described techniques provide for handovers such that a user equipment (UE) may transition from communications with a satellite via a first frequency (or set of frequencies) to communications with the same satellite via a second frequency (or set of frequencies). A UE may determine relevant timing and/or configuration for the second frequency (or set of frequencies) prior to transitioning from communications via the first frequency (or set of frequencies). Thus, the UE may efficiently begin communications at a second frequency (or set of frequencies) that are different than the first frequency (or set of frequencies)—for example, without performing a random access procedure.

  • Publication number: 20240276404
Abstract: Non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) may establish uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) radio frame timing structures to efficiently account for propagation delay and propagation delay variation associated with communications in the NTN. NTNs may manage (synchronize) radio frame timing structures of base stations (e.g., satellites) and user equipment (UEs) in the NTN. Further, UEs may determine timing advance (TA) values to be applied to UL transmissions based on their respective scheduling offset (e.g., offset in UL and DL radio frame timing structures), as well as based on propagation delay or round trip time (RTT). As such, served UEs may determine UL timing such that UL transmissions from the UEs to a satellite arrives at the satellite in a time synchronized manner. In other cases, a satellite may determine UL timing, based on reception timing, such that various UEs in the NTN may implement uniform UL and DL radio frame timing structures.
