  • Patent number: 6088202
Abstract: A double sided disk drive has a first transducer mounted to a carriage via a flexure seat for data transfer with one recording surface of a disk, and a second transducer mounted via another flexure seat to a carrier arm which in turn is pivoted on the carriage, for data transfer with another recording surface of the disk. An extremely thin piece of sheet metal of biaxial gimbal configuration, the flexure seat supporting the second transducer on the pivotal carrier arm is particularly susceptible to permanent deformation or breakage in the event of a violent swinging of the arm, as when the disk drive is dropped with no disk loaded therein. A deflection limiter is therefore attached to the carrier arm for limiting the deflection of the flexure seat for the second transducer toward the magnetic disk when the transducer is out of data transducing contact with the disk.

  • Patent number: 4951165
Abstract: A magnetic head carries out at least one of a recording, reproduction and erasure of an information on and/or from a magnetic recording medium by making sliding contact with the magnetic recording medium. The magnetic head comprises a first slider having a first surface which confronts the magnetic recording medium, a second slider having a second surface which confronts the magnetic recording medium and a contact portion for making sliding contact with the recording medium, and a magnetic head part sandwiched between the first and second sliders for carrying out at least one of the recording, reproduction and erasure of the information on and/or from the recording medium. The magnetic head part has a sliding contact surface for making sliding contact with the magnetic recording medium, and this magnetic head part projects from the first and second surfaces of the first and second sliders so that the sliding contact surface approximately coincides with the contact surface of the second slider.

  • Patent number: 4903156
Abstract: A magnetic recording and/or reproducing apparatus comprises a first magnetic head mounted on a carriage and a second magnetic head mounted on an arm which swings to and from the carriage, for engagement with a first and second side respectively of a flexible magnetic disc. The first and second magnetic heads are mounted on the carriage and the arm respectively via first and second gimbal plates. The elastic modules of the first gimbal plate is chosen such that the resonance of the first and second magnetic heads due to external vibration is avoided.

  • Patent number: 4740854
Abstract: For resiliently supporting a transducer head on a carrier member, such as a head carriage or a load arm pivoted thereon, that is movable radially of a flexible magnectic disk, a flexure seat is provided which is fabricated from resilient sheet metal material. The flexure seat comprises a central portion of circular or polygonal shape on which the transducer head is to be fixedly mounted, a peripheral portion surrounding the central portion and to be secured to the head carrier member, and several bridge portions interconnecting the central and peripheral portions at points angularly spaced from one another about the center of the central portion. Each bridge portion comprises two deflective strips of approximately the same length extending along the periphery of the central portion substantially in parallel relation to each other and joined to each other each at one extremity thereof. The other extremities of the deflective strips are joined respectively to the central portion and to the peripheral portion.
