  • Publication number: 20090214121
Abstract: An edge map creation unit detects an edge intensity of an input image in units of three types of blocks having different sizes. An operation parameter adjustment unit sets initial values of an edge reference value and an extraction reference value on the basis of a dynamic range which is a difference between the maximum and minimum values of the edge intensity. An edge point extraction unit extracts an edge point from the input image on the basis of the edge reference value. Until an extraction amount determination unit determines that the edge point extraction amount is appropriate on the basis of the extraction reference value, the operation parameter adjustment unit repeatedly performs a processing of adjusting the edge reference value, and the edge point extraction unit repeatedly performs a processing of extracting the edge point from the input image on the basis of the adjusted edge reference value.

  • Publication number: 20080137727
Abstract: A basic pattern generating unit 81 generates a film grain basic pattern 86 in which the histogram of random noise is substantially the same as the film grain basic pattern information 53. The film grain basic pattern 86 is of (64×64) pixels and an area of (16×16) pixels is cut out and supplied to a multiplier 84. Strength information 88 is generated based on film grain strength information 54 produced on the encoding side and an average value 87 of a pixel value in the area of (16×16) pixels of decoded image information 42. The strength of basic pattern 86 is adjusted by this strength information 88. Film grain image 89 whose strength is adjusted is added to the area of (16×16) pixels of the decoded image information 42 by an adder 85 by the unit of pixel.

  • Patent number: 6901548
Abstract: To carry out error correction coding and decoding according to a serially concatenated coded modulation system with a small circuit scale and high performance. A coding apparatus 1 is designed so that an interleaver 20 interleaves order of bits so that all weights are coded by a convolutional coder 30 with respect to data comprising a series of 3 bits supplied from a convolutional coder 10; the convolutional coder 30 makes as small as possible the total value of the hamming distance of input bit between passes to be the minimum Euclidean distance with respect to data of 3 bits supplied from the interleaver 20; and a multi-value modulation mapping circuit 40 causes the hamming distance of input bits in the convolutional coder 30 as the distance between signal point on the I/Q plane is smaller to subject data of 3 bits supplied from the convolutional coder 30 to mapping.

  • Patent number: 6744580
Abstract: A magnetic recording and/or reproducing apparatus performing efficient decoding to lower a decoding error rate. A magnetic recording and/or reproducing apparatus 50 includes a modulation SISO decoder 63 for modulation decoding data modulation-encoded in a predetermined fashion by a modulation coder 52. In the magnetic recording and/or reproducing apparatus 50, the modulation SISO decoder 63 is a soft input soft output (SISO) type modulation decoder fed with a soft input signal and issuing a soft output signal. The modulation SISO decoder 63 is fed with a trellis soft output signal D64 supplied from a trellis SISO decoder 62 to find a soft decision value for an error correction coding data D52 fed to the modulation coder 52 of the recording system to generate a modulated soft decision signal D65. The modulation SISO decoder 63 routes the so-generated modulated soft decision signal D65 to a downstream side error correction soft decoder 64.

  • Patent number: 6684365
Abstract: Encoded data having a small code word weighting are not output. In a step S21, a sequence p[i] (0≦i<N) is set so that there is no duplication in the values from 0 to (N−1), in a step S22, all positions for which specific substitution patterns are generated in the sequence p[i] are examined, the information is stored in the sequence r[i], and the sum of this information is set as TOTAL. The routine proceeds to a step S24, positions which do not generate specific substitution patterns, i.e., predetermined values j not contained in r[i] (0≦j<N), are randomly selected, and processing which replaces p[r[i]] by p[j] for all r[i] is performed.

  • Patent number: 6415414
Abstract: In the invention, such replacement is performed that the sum of distances between two points before and after replacement is large, and in the case where replacement positions are regarded as a sequence, the sequence satisfies k-equidistributioness. At step S1, a replacement array by an affine interleaver is set. At steps S2 and S3, an M-sequence is generated, and a function L(t, u) is obtained by the existence position of 0 and 1. By data obtained through these processes, at step S4, a final replacement array is set.
