  • Patent number: 7200860
Abstract: A system and method for providing a secure network service to an information handling system compares the detected network address of a service network location that calls a service on the information handling system with a list of authorized network addresses and denies access to confidential information of the information handling system if the detected network address is not authorized to obtain confidential information from the service. For instance, a service security module loaded on the information handling system detects the URL or domain of a service network location and ensures that the URL or domain is on an authorized list of addresses before service functions are allowed to access confidential information associated with the information handling system.

  • Patent number: 7093248
Abstract: Alerts are targeted for display at an information handling system by associating conditions with alerts and downloading for display an alert only to information handling systems that meet the conditions of the alert. An alert list that includes alerts and associated conditions in an Extensible Mark-up Language file is periodically queried for retrieval at information handling systems and parsed to determine alerts targeted to the information handling system. Only relevant alerts are downloaded and displayed at each information handling system to minimize user distraction. Specific targeting is provided by logical expressions that may state conditional alert configuration parameters with precision to limit the number of information handling systems targeted for the alert to very specific configurations.

  • Publication number: 20040176964
Abstract: A method and system are provided which substantially reduce the disadvantages and problems associated with previous methods and systems for resolving issues related to information handling system failures. A self-support application on an information handling system diagnoses failure issues not correctable by self-support and communicates a diagnostic code through a network to a service center. The service center determines the failure issue from the diagnostics code and refers the failure issue to an issue resolution source associated with resolution of the failure issue, such as automated support resolution for failure issues having a known resolution, or phone or electronic message support for failure issues not having a known resolution.

  • Publication number: 20040148223
Abstract: Direct marketing subsystems associated with information handling systems download coupon lists from a direct marketing server, each coupon of a coupon list having one or more associated conditions and items offered for sale. A coupon relevance module analyzes the coupon list conditions to identify coupons that are relevant to the information handling system for display at the information handling system. Activation of a coupon initiates purchase of the item associated with the coupon by communication with the direct marketing server. A unique identifier of the information handling system associates selection of the coupon with an account for charging and delivery of the purchased item.
