Patent number: 8453720Abstract: A condensing type dryer uses a heat exchanger in which condensed water can be smoothly discharged through a water-discharging slot formed in a rear end portion of a rear cover of the heat exchanger. The water-discharging slot prevents an air flowing resistance which can be caused by condensed water pooling at the rear end portion of the rear cover. Also, leakage-preventing walls enhance the heat exchanging function by ensuring a uniform flow of cold external air through the heat changer. The leakage-preventing walls prevent external air from leaking around the lateral edges of the heat exchanger.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2007Date of Patent: June 4, 2013Assignee: LG Electronics Inc.Inventors: Sung-Ho Song, Jung-Geun Oh, Sang-Ik Lee, Yoon-Seob Eom, Han-Yong Jung, Sang-Hun Bae

Publication number: 20060288602Abstract: A heat exchanger for a dryer includes a plurality of tube units configured to conduct warm humid air and a plurality of fin units configured to conduct a flow of ambient air. The tube units and fin units are alternately stacked to form a core. The fin units includes a plurality of air channels formed by repeatedly bending a flat metal plate in a zigzag fashion and a plurality of fins formed on surfaces of the air channels. The tube units have a duct form with both ends opened. The tube units may be formed by extrusion. A plurality of channel walls can be formed inside the tube units. A plurality of grooves or fins can also be formed inside the tube units. A plurality of channel walls can also be vertically formed inside the tube units. In this case, the grooves or fins can be formed on the channel walls. The grooves or fins can also be formed in a spiral form on the inner surfaces of the tube units.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 1, 2006Publication date: December 28, 2006Inventors: Hyun-Uk Lee, Jung-Geun Oh, Yoon-Seob Eom

Publication number: 20060266505Abstract: A heat exchanger for a dryer includes a plurality of tube units in which wet air is circulated, and a plurality of fin units alternately laminated with the plurality of tube units, in which external air flows. The tube and fin units are bonded to one another at contact portions by a cladding material interposed therebetween. The cladding material is formed of a material having a melting point lower than the melting points of the tube and fin units. The cladding material can be a metallic material including aluminum or aluminum alloy. A very thin layer of cladding material helps to increase the heat transfer efficiency of the device. Likewise, using a cladding material with good thermal transfer characteristics helps to improve the heat transfer efficiency of the device. Bonding the tube units to the fin units using such a cladding material can reduce the fabrication cost and fabrication time compared to heat exchange units where the bonding is done with an epoxy.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 25, 2006Publication date: November 30, 2006Inventors: Hyun-Uk Lee, Jung-Geun Oh, Yoon-Seob Eom

Publication number: 20060266506Abstract: A heat exchanger for a dryer includes a core in which a plurality of tube units and a plurality of fin units are alternately stacked. Front and rear covers are attached at front and rear sides of the core. A front plate is positioned between the core and the front cover and a rear plate is positioned between the core and the rear cover. The plates have openings at locations corresponding to the opened ends of the tube units. The plates are physically coupled with the front and rear covers. The plates are also attached to the core with a cladding material by a brazing operation.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 25, 2006Publication date: November 30, 2006Inventors: Hyun-Uk Lee, Jung-Geun Oh, Yoon-Seob Eom

Publication number: 20060266507Abstract: A heat exchanger for a dryer includes a plurality of tubes for circulating wet air and a plurality of fin structures for circulating external air which are alternately laminated together to form the heat exchanger. The fin structure includes a plurality of air passages formed by repeatedly bending a flat-type metal plate in a zigzag form. A plurality of fins are formed on side surfaces of the air passages. The fins protrude from the side surfaces of the air passages at an inclination angle. The fins are formed by partially cutting the plate forming the side surfaces of the air passages, and by the bending the cut portions of the plate into the air passages to from the fins. A heat transfer area and a heat transfer efficiency are increased, thereby enhancing a drying efficiency of a dryer having the heat exchanger.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 25, 2006Publication date: November 30, 2006Inventors: Yoon-Seob Eom, Jung-Geun Oh, Hyun-Wook Lee
